Impact of Clear Aligners vs Conventional Brackets on Oxidant and Antioxidant Levels: A Case-Control Study.

BACKGROUND The aim of this study was to identify the changes in the levels of total oxidant status (TOS) and total antioxidant status (TAS) in gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) samples of patients treated with conventional brackets (CBs) and clear aligners (CAs) over a 30-day period. MATERIAL AND METHODS Thirty-four patients who received non-extraction treatment with either CBs or CAs were included in the study. GCF samples were obtained at baseline (T0) and on days 7 (T1) and 30 (T2) following initial phase of treatment.

Assessment of pediatric patients with suspected nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug hypersensitivity.

Beta-lactam antibiotics are the most common cause of hypersensitivity reactions to medications, followed by nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID). The aim of this study was to classify children with hypersensitivity reactions to nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID-H) according to the latest updates. ENDA recommendations were used to evaluate all patients with suspected NSAID-H.

Cannabis is known to cause psychotic disorders, and the increasing use of cannabis constitutes an important health problem. Growing evidence that cannabis causes the development of psychosis has led to an increase in the number of studies in this field. This review aims to clarify the role of cannabis use in the development of psychosis, discuss the current literature about the underlying neurobiological mechanisms.

Recurrent Psychotic Depression Associated with Chronic Subdural Haematoma: A Case Report.

Chronic subdural hematomas (CSDH) with isolated psychiatric presentation are rare. In this paper, we report a case of 77-year-old-female patient who had psychotic depression after repetitive head trauma without any neurological symptoms. The brain magnetic resonance imaging revealed an 20 mm subdural hematoma in the right frontoparietal region and a 7 mm subdural hematoma in the left frontal region.

Evaluation of the effect of Er,Cr:YSGG laser application on peri-implant crevicular fluid receptor activator of nuclear factor-kappa B ligand and osteoprotegerin levels in the non-surgical treatment of peri-implantitis: A randomized clinical trial.

Background: This study aimed to investigate the effect of erbium, chromium doped:yttrium,scandium,gallium,garnet (Er,Cr:YSGG) laser application combined with non-surgical mechanical debridement (MD) on clinical parameters and peri-implant crevicular fluid receptor activator of nuclear factor-kappa B ligand (RANKL) and osteoprotegerin (OPG) levels in the treatment of peri-implantitis.

Methods: A total of 49 patients who underwent non-surgical treatment of peri-implantitis were randomly divided into two groups. The control group (n = 26) received MD alone, while the laser group (n = 23) received MD+Er,Cr:YSGG.

Effects of Clozapine on Cortical Inhibition: A Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation Follow-up Study.

Background: Preclinical and clinical investigations have revealed deficits in cortical inhibition in individuals with schizophrenia. Transcranial magnetic stimulation, a commonly used noninvasive measurement technique, is used for assessing these deficits. Limited research has been conducted on the effects of antipsychotic medications on cortical inhibition.

Clinical and radiographic evaluation of the use of PRF, CGF, and autogenous bone in the treatment of periodontal intrabony defects: Treatment of periodontal defect by using autologous products.

Background: The purpose of this randomized clinical study was to clinically evaluate and compare the efficiencies of platelet-rich fibrin (PRF), concentrated growth factor (CGF) and autogenous bone graft (ABG) in the treatment of intrabony pockets and to assess the alveolar bone gain (AB gain) radiographically (panoramic and CBCT images).

Methods: Eighty intrabony pockets were divided into four groups: ojnly open flap debridement (OFD), OFD+PRF, OFD+CGF and OFD+ABG; each group consisted of 20 defects. Plaque index (PI), gingival index (GI), probing depth (PD), clinical attachment level (CAL), and tooth mobility (TM) by using Periotest M device were evaluated.

Background: In patients with periodontal disease, various symptoms are observed along with inflammation. The impact of local and systemic inflammation on periodontal tissue is well-known; however, the impact of periodontal disease on the individual's quality of life is unclear. This study aimed to assess oral health-related and general health-related quality of life in patients undergoing maintenance treatment following treatment for periodontitis (RP-CPH), patients with gingivitis (G) and patients with Stage I periodontitis (SI-P) and to compare this with individuals with clinical periodontal health (IP-CPH).

A systematic chart review of pharmacological interventions in patients with clozapine-induced hypersalivation.

Objectives: To investigate the efficacy and tolerability of medications, such as mouthwash use of 1 % atropine sulfate and tropicamide drops, oral amitriptyline and amisulpride used for clozapine-induced hypersalivation (CIH).

Methods: The medical charts of inpatients with psychotic disorders between 2010 and 2022 were reviewed retrospectively. We detected 161 patients with eligible data who received or commenced clozapine.

The purpose of this study was to assess patients with CMA who received measles or MMR vaccines containing alpha-lactalbumin, as well as the characteristics of those who developed reactions to these vaccines. Patients followed up in the allergy clinic for CMA and who received measles or MMR vaccines containing alpha-lactalbumin at 9 or 12 months of age were included in the study, and their characteristics were analyzed retrospectively from the hospital registry system.

Aesthetic evaluation of free gingival graft applied by partial de-epithelialization and free gingival graft applied by conventional method: a randomized controlled clinical study.

Objective: The aim of this clinical study was to compare the partially de-epithelialized free gingival grafts (d-FGGs) with the conventional free gingival grafts (FGGs) aesthetically using photographic analysis and Visual Analogue Scale (VAS).

Purpose: Hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) is used in the treatment of several diseases, such as malaria, Sjögren's disease, Covid-19, and rheumatoid arthritis. However, HCQ induces retinal pigment epithelium death via the excessive increase of cytosolic (cROS) and mitochondrial (mROS) free oxygen radical production. The transient receptor potential melastatin 2 (TRPM2) cation channel is stimulated by ADP-ribose (ADPR), cROS, and mROS, although it is inhibited by curcumin (CRC).

Introduction: The management of the COVID-19 vaccine in children with mastocytosis is unclear due to a lack of data. In the current study, we aimed to evaluate the adverse reactions following COVID-19 vaccination in adolescents with cutaneous mastocytosis (CM).

Methods: This study included 27 paediatric patients who were diagnosed with CM and were followed up in the paediatric allergy department of a tertiary care children's hospital.

Characteristics of children with cat sensitivity: a prospective cross-sectional study.

Background: Animal dander is one of the most common respiratory allergens in children, and there is evidence that cat sensitivity is a risk factor for asthma and allergic rhinitis. In this study, it was aimed to evaluate children with cat sensitivity and to identify their demographic and clinical characteristics.

Methods: Patients who were found to be sensitive to cats following skin prick tests performed in our allergy clinic over a period of one year (and two control groups), were included in the study.

Should we routinely add CRP to clozapine titrations? - Learning from three cases.

Objectives: An international guideline recently provided certain personalized schedules for titrating clozapine in adult inpatients by considering: 1) DNA ancestry group, 2) sexsmoking subgroup, and 3) presence/absence of clozapine poor metabolizer (PM) status. Measuring CRP levels at baseline and during the first 4 weeks is recommended. Titrations too fast for the metabolism of specific patients can lead to clozapine-induced inflammations and CRP elevations.
