Zinc nitride (ZnN) comprises earth-abundant elements, possesses a small direct bandgap, and is characterized by high electron mobility. While these characteristics make the material a promising compound semiconductor for various optoelectronic applications, including photovoltaics and thin-film transistors, it commonly exhibits unintentional degenerate n-type conductivity. This degenerate character has significantly impeded the development of ZnN for technological applications and is commonly assumed to arise from incorporation of oxygen impurities.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFSemiconducting ternary nitrides are a promising class of materials that have received increasing attention in recent years, but often show high free electron concentrations due to the low defect formation energies of nitrogen vacancies and substitutional oxygen, leading to degenerate n-type doping. To achieve non-degenerate behavior, we now investigate a family of amorphous calcium-zinc nitride (Ca-Zn-N) thin films. By adjusting the metal cation ratios, we demonstrate band gap tunability between 1.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFAgBiS quantum dots (ABS QDs) have emerged as highly promising candidates for photovoltaic applications due to their strong sunlight absorption, nontoxicity, and elemental availability. Nevertheless, the efficiencies of ABS solar cells currently fall far short of their thermodynamic limits due in large part to sluggish charge transport characteristics in nanocrystal-derived films. In this study, we overcome this limitation by tuning the surfaces of ABS semiconductor QDs via a solvent-induced ligand exchange (SILE) strategy and provide key insights into the role of surface composition on both - and -type charge transfer doping, as well as long-range charge transport.

In photocatalysis, photogenerated charge separation is pivotal and can be achieved through various mechanisms. Building heterojunctions is a promising method to enhance charge separation, where effective contact and charge exchange between heterojunction components remains challenging. Mostly used synthesis processes for making heterostructures require high temperatures, difficult processes, or expensive materials.

Imaging findings of malakoplakia overlap with malignancy and tissue sampling are typically required for definitive diagnosis. We present a case of a 66-year-old woman with a previous history of liver adenocarcinoma status post resection that subsequently developed an intensely FDG-avid retroperitoneal mass on surveillance imaging.

Extramedullary disease most commonly involves the skin, muscle, pleura, lymph nodes, liver, and central nervous system. Infrequently, extramedullary disease can involve the kidneys or perirenal space.

The levels and activities of the DNA/RNA helicase schlafen11 (SLFN11) and the serine/threonine-protein kinase ataxia telangiectasia and Rad3-related protein (ATR) may determine cancer cell sensitivity to DNA damaging agents, including platinum drugs. Here, we studied the roles of SLFN11 and ATR in cisplatin resistance of ovarian cancer using cell lines displaying acquired or intrinsic cisplatin resistance. W1CR, the cisplatin-resistant subline of W1 ovarian cancer cells, displayed reduced SLFN11 levels.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFThe tumor microenvironment (TME) in ovarian cancer (OC) has much greater complexity than previously understood. In response to aggressive pro-angiogenic stimulus, blood vessels form rapidly and are dysfunctional, resulting in poor perfusion, tissue hypoxia, and leakiness, which leads to increased interstitial fluid pressure (IFP). Decreased perfusion and high IFP significantly inhibit the uptake of therapies into the tumor.

Application of NGRA has been largely restricted to assessments of consumer use of cosmetics and is not currently implemented in occupational safety assessments, e.g.

Many different types of cancers exist that often require unique treatment approaches and therapies. A hallmark of tumor progression is the creation of an immunosuppressive environment, which poses complex challenges for current treatments.

Although these compounds are most commonly synthesized via ammonolysis of oxide precursors, such synthetic routes often lead to poorly controlled oxygen-to-nitrogen anion ratios, and the harsh nitridation conditions are incompatible with many substrates, including transparent conductive oxides. Here, we report direct reactive sputter deposition of a family of zirconium oxynitride thin films and the comprehensive characterization of their tunable structural, optical, and functional PEC properties.

The patient also had involvement of the spinal nerves and dura, histologically proven to be sarcoidosis. There were other manifestations of systemic sarcoidosis like metabolically active cervical and mediastinal lymphadenopathy.

Historically, prostate cancer metastasis to thyroid and cricoid cartilages was thought to be exceedingly rare, with only a few reported cases in the literature. Prostate cancer metastasis to the laryngeal cartilages was detected in 4 of 221 patients who underwent imaging with 18 F-PSMA (Pylarify) or 68 Ga-PSMA (Illuccix) PET/CT for initial staging of high-risk prostate cancer or restaging evaluation in the setting of biochemical recurrence from April 2022 through October 2023.

To help address this, a 16-month NM pathway for diagnostic radiology (DR) residents was developed in 2010. At the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, we matched our first resident into the NuRad (NM + DR) pathway in 2013.

Single-crystal X-ray diffraction revealed structural diversity ranging from one-dimensional chains in [Mn(BDDTC)(DMF)] () to two-dimensional (2D) honeycomb sheets observed for [Zn(BDDTC)][Zn(DMF)(HO)] (). Gas adsorption experiments confirmed a 3D porous structure for the mixed-valent material [Fe(BDDTC)(OH)] ().

Due to the wide availability of cross-sectional imaging, pheochromocytomas are commonly seen as small tumors less than 10 cm in size and are mostly treated with minimally invasive surgery. Their concomitant presence with horseshoe kidney or other anatomical and vascular anomalies is rare.

Over the last decades, several MRI scoring systems were developed to enhance the predictive accuracy of MRI. The aim of this study was to validate the correlation of four established MRI scoring systems with cognitive long-term outcomes in cooled asphyxiated newborns.

The impact of the latter two properties on the electronic energy levels relies primarily on nearest-neighbor interactions, which are difficult to study due to their nanoscale nature and heterogeneity. Here, an automated method is presented for fabricating thin films with a tailored ratio of surface to bulk sites and a controlled extension of domain edges, both of which are used to control nearest-neighbor interactions.
