Although heart rate variability (HRV) is a valid method to evaluate the behavior of the autonomic nervous system in individuals with temporomandibular disorder (TMD), the measurement can easily be biased by factors involving the analysis methodology, such as the removal of artifacts. Therefore, the objective of this investigation is to evaluate the impact of using different levels of threshold-based artifact correction to process HRV data in individuals with TMD. This cross-sectional observational study.

Introduction: With the reopening of schools during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, it was imperative to understand the role of students and education professionals in the spread of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). In this paper, we determined the seroprevalence of the SARS-CoV-2 anti-nucleocapsid antibodies in the school community in Campo Grande, the capital and most populous city of the state of Mato Grosso do Sul (Brazil) and evaluated its association with sex, school level, and school type.
Materials And Methods: The survey was carried out in 20 public and private schools in the urban region of Campo Grande using the TR DPP COVID-19 immunoglobulin M/immunoglobulin G (IgM/IgG) kit from the Immunobiological Technology Institute (Bio-Manguinhos, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil).
Wastewater treatment companies are facing several challenges related to the optimization of energy efficiency, meeting more restricted water quality standards, and resource recovery potential. Over the past decades, computational models have gained recognition as effective tools for addressing some of these challenges, contributing to the economic and operational efficiencies of wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs). To predict the performance of WWTPs, numerous deterministic, stochastic, and time series-based models have been developed.

A novel interposition technique is presented in which a pediatric patient underwent reimplantation of the anomalous origin of the left coronary artery from the pulmonary artery into the aorta by creation of an extension using an autograft of the left atrial appendage. The advantage of this technique is that the autograft remains patent and lies anatomically without tension over the pulmonary artery as demonstrated in the follow-up computed tomography angiogram.

The objective of this study was to investigate the possibilities of using FT-NIR to predict lipids, carbohydrates, fibers, proteins, salt and energy contents, as well as to identify cookies type and main cereals present in a batch of 120 commercially acquired samples.

Thus, quality inspection is crucial for protecting consumers and increasing the rice's value in the productive chain. Currently, methods for rice labeling depending on grain quality features are based on image and/or visual inspection.

Fast, easy-to-use, and low-cost analytical techniques for the large-scale screening of aging time have been demanded lately to fight the growth of these frauds in retail coffee markets. In this work, was evaluated as a provider of relevant regressors, chemically explainable, aiming for predictive models for estimating the aging of roasted and packaged coffees during their shelf life.

In some regions, the implementation of large-scale bike-sharing systems and improved cycling infrastructure are two of the factors enabling this growth. An increase in non-motorized modes of transportation makes our cities more human, decreases pollution, traffic, and improves quality of life.

Vector competence of triatomines (kissing bugs) for Trypanosoma cruzi transmission depends on the parasite-vector interaction and the genetic constitution of both. This study evaluates the susceptibility and vector competence of Rhodnius robustus experimentally infected with T. cruzi IV (TcIV).

The majority of the research regarding the use of QIA has been carried out using synthetic wastewater and applied to activated sludge systems, while there is still a lack of knowledge regarding the application of QIA in the monitoring of aerobic granular sludge (AGS) systems. In this work, chemical oxygen demand (COD), ammonium (N-NH), nitrite (N-NO), nitrate (N-NO), salinity (Cl), and total suspended solids (TSS) levels present in the effluent of an AGS system treating fish canning wastewater were successfully associated to QIA data, from both suspended and granular biomass fractions by partial least squares models.

Our previous work showed that the treatment of Lister Hooded rat retinal cell cultures with 50 ng/mL phorbol 12-myristate 13-acetate (PMA), a protein kinase C activator, increases the survival of retinal ganglion cells (RGCs) kept in culture for 48 h after axotomy. Here we aim to analyze how PMA modulates the levels of TNF-α and IL-1β (both key inflammatory mediators) and the impact of this modulation on RGCs survival.

There were 3 different phases: phase I as the control without IBU for 56 days, phase II (40 days), and phase III (60 days) containing IBU at 10 and 5 mg L each. The overall performance of the SBR as well as the extracellular polymeric substances (EPS) in terms of polysaccharides, proteins, and humic acid substances were estimated.

In order to improve the diagnosis of giardiasis, fecal samples (high/medium/low concentration of cysts) were processed by the parasitological methods used in the routine: Faust, Lutz e Ritchie modified (replacement of formaldehyde by distilled water). The cysts were quantified; the DNA was extracted and amplified by semi-nested PCR (GDH gene). Fifteen clinical samples were analyzed to validate the study by PCR-RFLP.

Given this scenario, the extent of the impact of the disease on more vulnerable individuals, such as pregnant women, is of great concern. Although pregnancy may be a risk factor in respiratory virus infections, there are no considerable differences regarding COVID-19 severity observed between pregnant and nonpregnant women.
