Background: Management of orthostatic hypotension (OH) prioritizes prevention of standing hypotension, sometimes at the expense of supine hypertension. It is unclear whether supine hypertension is associated with adverse outcomes relative to standing hypotension.
Objectives: To compare the long-term clinical consequences of supine hypertension and standing hypotension among middle-aged adults with and without OH.
The global burden of cardiovascular disease (CVD) continues to grow, as does the incidence of hypertension, one of the most important modifiable risk factors of CVD. Non-pharmacologic, population level interventions are critically needed to halt the hypertension pandemic, but there is an ongoing debate as to whether public policy efforts should focus more on dietary sodium reduction or increasing potassium. In this commentary, we summarize arguments in favor of policy geared towards reduced sodium intake.

Methods: The Atherosclerosis Risk in Communities (ARIC) Study measured supine and standing SBP in adults aged 45-64 years between 1987 and 1989. We used Cox regression to evaluate the associations of low standing SBP (<110 mm Hg) with risk of falls, syncope, coronary heart disease (CHD), and mortality through December 31, 2019.
Hypertension is among the most prevalent medical conditions globally and a major contributor to chronic kidney disease, cardiovascular disease, and death. Prevention through nonpharmacological, population-level interventions is critically needed to halt this worldwide epidemic. However, there are ongoing disagreements as to where public policy efforts should focus.

Historically, most of the available literature has focused on cervical cancer, the fourth commonest cause of cancer-related death worldwide, whose incidence is heterogeneous mirroring the inequitable distribution of facilities for screening and treatment and vaccination programs. A broader vision of HPV vaccination impact is needed to understand the potential effect of a global high immunization coverage on both cervical cancer and other HPV-associated malignancies, in women and men.

Adoption of this strategy has been variable. We evaluated the impact of an institutional quality improvement (QI) initiative to reduce the use of triple therapy (TT, OAC + DAPT) and improve discharge communication post-PCI.

A 75-year-old man presented with shortness of breath and somnolence and was found to have urosepsis. Blood and urine cultures subsequently grew multidrug-resistant (MDR) (Kp) with the New Delhi metallo-β-lactamase gene. The patient was treated successfully with plazomicin and meropenem/vaborbactam combination therapy.

Endothelial dysfunction and reduced nitric oxide (NO) signaling are key abnormalities leading to skeletal muscle oxygen delivery-utilization mismatch and poor physical capacity in patients with heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF). Oral inorganic nitrate supplementation provides an exogenous source of NO that may enhance locomotor muscle function and oxygenation with consequent improvement in exercise tolerance in HFrEF. Thirteen patients (left ventricular ejection fraction ≤40%) were enrolled in a double-blind, randomized crossover study to receive concentrated nitrate-rich (nitrate) or nitrate-depleted (placebo) beetroot juice for 9 days.

The experiment used a time-structured, low-energy muon beam and a segmented plastic scintillator array to record more than 2×10(12) decays.

Background: There is a lack of published data about the nature of nursing interventions that are required to provide telephone management for patients with heart failure (HF).
Purpose: The nature of patient issues, telephone nursing interventions, and associated workload at one HF clinic are described in this study.
Methods: Workload was captured using a computerized workload measurement tool.
The mean life of the positive muon has been measured to a precision of 11 ppm using a low-energy, pulsed muon beam stopped in a ferromagnetic target, which was surrounded by a scintillator detector array. The result, tau(micro)=2.197 013(24) micros, is in excellent agreement with the previous world average.

Objectives: This pilot study explored how closely nurses in Canadian HF clinics follow consensus guideline recommendations and nursing interventions from published studies.
Methods: A total of 27 nurses from HF clinics across Canada completed a questionnaire about their role and scope of practice.
A high voltage RF oscillator circuit has been designed and constructed for driving multipole ion guides. The circuit is tunable from 500 kHz to 1.5 MHz by changing a capacitor and provides 0-1000 V(p-p) that is controlled by a 0-10 V input using a negative feedback circuit.
