We assessed real-life glycemic outcomes and predictors of composite measures of optimal glycemic control in children and adolescents with type 1 diabetes (T1D) during their initial 12 months of the MiniMed™ 780G use. This prospective observational multicenter study collected demographic, clinical, and 2-week 780G system data at five time points. Optimal glycemic control was defined as a composite glycemic control (CGC) score requiring the attainment of four recommended continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) targets, as well as the glycemia risk index (GRI) of hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia and composite CGM index (COGI).

Background: Enterococcal meningitis in children is rare, and its clinical presentation, laboratory characteristics and outcomes are not well defined.

Methods: We conducted a retrospective analysis of Enterococcal meningitis cases during 2002-2023 at our tertiary center.

Results: We identified 10 cases in children 2 weeks to 15 years old (median age: 8 months).

Patients can be immunocompromised from a diverse range of disease and treatment factors, including malignancies, autoimmune disorders and their treatments, and organ and stem-cell transplantation. Infections are a leading cause of morbidity and mortality in immunocompromised patients, and the disease treatment landscape is continually evolving. Despite being a critical but preventable and curable adverse event, the reporting of infection events in randomised trials lacks sufficient detail while inconsistency of categorisation and definition of infections in observational and registry studies limits comparability and future pooling of data.

Background: Human metapneumovirus (hMPV) epidemiology, clinical characteristics and risk factors for poor outcome after allogeneic stem cell transplantation (allo-HCT) remain a poorly investigated area.

Methods: This retrospective multicenter cohort study examined the epidemiology, clinical characteristics, and risk factors for poor outcomes associated with human metapneumovirus (hMPV) infections in recipients of allo-HCT.

Results: We included 428 allo-HCT recipients who developed 438 hMPV infection episodes between January 2012 and January 2019.

Introduction: COVID-19 has been associated with high morbidity and mortality in allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplant (allo-HCT) recipients.

Methods: This study reports on 986 patients reported to the EBMT registry during the first 29 months of the pandemic.

Results: The median age was 50.

HEV infection is an emerging cause of acute and chronic hepatitis in stem cell transplant (SCT) recipients. We performed a retrospective observational study among EBMT centers with the aim of describing characteristics, management and outcome of HEV after SCT. There were 34 cases of HEV infection from 12 centers in 6 countries, diagnosed in median 4.

Background: The LACE index-length of stay (L), acuity (A), Charlson co-morbidities (C), and emergent visits (E)-predicts 30-day outcomes following heart failure (HF) hospitalization but is complex to score. A simpler LE index (length of stay and emergent visits) could offer a practical advantage in point-of-care risk prediction.

Methods And Results: This was a sub-study of the patient-centred care transitions in HF (PACT-HF) multicentre trial.

A smeared spectrogram is a result of the smoothing kernel in the short-time Fourier-transform (STFT). Besides the smeared energy, time and frequency phase information is also smeared, i.e.

Background: Data on enterococcal bacteremia (EB) in immunocompromised children are scarce. We aimed to describe EB in children with hematologic malignancies (HM), solid tumors and/or following allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) and analyze their ampicillin and vancomycin resistance.

Methods: We conducted an observational retrospective study in the tertiary-care Hadassah University Medical Center (2001-2015).

Findings of average differences between females and males in the structure of specific brain regions are often interpreted as indicating that the typical male brain is different from the typical female brain. An alternative interpretation is that the brain types typical of females are also typical of males, and sex differences exist only in the frequency of rare brain types. Here we contrasted the two hypotheses by analyzing the structure of 2176 human brains using three analytical approaches.

Purpose: Data on non-fermentative Gram-negative rods (NFGNR) bacteremia in children with malignancies are limited. The aim of this study was to present clinical picture, antimicrobial susceptibility pattern, risk factors for resistance and outcome in NFGNR bacteremia in children with cancer.

Methods: All episodes of NFGNR bacteremia occurring during 2001-2014 in children with cancer in a tertiary-care hospital were retrospectively analyzed.

Background: Cigarette smoking is a major cause of health disparities. We aimed to determine social characteristics associated with smoking status and age at smoking initiation in the ethnically-diverse population of Israel.

Methods: This is a cross-sectional survey, based on data collected during 2010 by the Israel Bureau of Statistics, in a representative nationwide sample of 7,524 adults (≥20 years).

Objective: To evaluate maternal and breastfed infant's outcome following post-partum maternal use of methylergonovine.

Methods: A prospective, controlled observational study design was used. Mothers who contacted Beilinson Teratology Information Service (BELTIS) were followed by phone interview.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to describe the clinical presentation and neurologic effects of sandfly viruses (SFVs) on patients in Jerusalem between 2008 and 2013.
  • A total of nine patients, aged 1.5 to 85 years, exhibited severe neurologic symptoms like fever, seizures, and various forms of meningitis, with MRI revealing significant brain and spinal cord abnormalities.
  • While neurologic symptoms from SFV infections are generally seen as benign, this research highlighted serious complications, emphasizing the need to consider SFV in cases of fever with neurologic signs.

The detection of multi-resistant bacterial pathogens, particularly those to carbapenemases, in leukemic and stem cell transplant patients forces the use of old or non-conventional agents as the only remaining treatment options. These include colistin/polymyxin B, tigecycline, fosfomycin and various anti-gram-positive agents. Data on the use of these agents in leukemic patients are scanty, with only linezolid subjected to formal trials.

We propose a spectral imaging method for piecewise "macropixel" objects, which allows a regular digital camera to be converted into a digital snapshot spectral imager by equipping the camera with only a disperser and a demultiplexing algorithm. The method exploits a "multiplexed spectrum" intensity pattern, i.e.
