Introduction: Our study endeavours to ascertain the plasma-derived long noncoding ribonucleic acids (lncRNA) and messenger RNA (mRNA) expression profiles through gene microarray analysis, aiming to elucidate their potential biological roles in the development and progression of diabetic cardiomyopathy (DCM), particularly with respect to myocardial fibrosis.

Material And Methods: We conducted gene chip experiments to discern differences in lncRNA and mRNA expression profiles between diabetic cardiomyopathy and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Differentially expressed mRNAs were subjected to functional enrichment analysis, thereby enabling the identification of key genes.

Article Synopsis
  • Anaplastic thyroid carcinoma (ATC) is a rare and serious type of cancer that affects the thyroid gland, and researchers are studying a protein called DIAPH3 to see how it affects this cancer.
  • They used different tests to find out how DIAPH3 interacts with another protein, FOXM1, and how this affects cancer cells' ability to grow and spread.
  • The results showed that DIAPH3 helps ATC cells become more aggressive and that it works with FOXM1 to promote cell growth and prevent cell death, making the cancer harder to treat.

The incidence of thyroid nodules is rising annually. Surgical treatment is effective, but often results in significant trauma, recurrent laryngeal nerve injury, hypoparathyroidism, and other complications. Recent years have seen significant breakthroughs in thyroid nodule ablation for treating thyroid diseases, although its application remains controversial.

Introduction: The objective was to investigate the growth and development of infants and young children with mild subclinical hypothyroidism aged 0 to 5 years, especially those aged 0 to 2 years.

Material And Methods: The study was a retrospective analysis of the birth status, physical growth, and neuromotor development of patients aged 0 to 5 years, who were diagnosed with subclinical hypothyroidism during newborn screening (NBS) in Zhongshan between 2016 and 2019. Based on preliminary results, we compared 3 groups: with thyroid-stimulating factor (TSH) value of 5-10 mIU/L (442 cases), TSH value of 10-20 mIU/L (208 cases), and TSH above 20 mIU/L (77 cases).

Introduction: It is well established that glucocorticoid-induced osteoporosis is highly associated with preosteoblast differentiation and function. This study is based on the premise that Wnt7b can promote bone formation through Wnt signalling pathway because it can stimulate preosteoblast differentiation and increase its activity. However, it is unknown whether Wnt7b can rescue the inhibited osteoblast differentiation and function caused by exogenous glucocorticoid.

Streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetes rodent models are widely used to study the pathogenesis and metabolic function in diabetes (DM). The aim of this study was to assess the antioxidant effect of curcumin in STZ-induced type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). In this research, rats were randomly divided into 3 groups (8 in each group): a nondiabetic group (Control), a diabetic group (DM), and a curcumin treatment group (DM + Cur 200 mg/kg group).

Introduction: The effects of ethephon on the reproductive systems of mammalian females are still ambiguous. This study was conducted to evaluate the toxic effects of ethephon on the female reproductive system.

Material And Methods: Forty female C57 mice were used as experimental subjects and evenly divided into 8 groups, which were fed with mixed ethephon (0, 107.

Introduction: Pigment epithelium-derived factor (PEDF) is a multifunctional protein with anti-angiogenic, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. PEDF is involved in the pathogenesis of diabetic retinopathy, but its exact role in diabetic kidneys remains unclear. P78-PEDF is an active peptide sequence consisting of 44 amino acids with biological activity similar to that of PEDF.

Introduction: Identifying and managing patients with prediabetes is important. The study aims to investigate the association of body mass index (BMI) with impaired fasting glucose (IFG), β-cell dysfunction, and insulin resistance in nondiabetic Chinese individuals.

Material And Methods: This was a cross-sectional study of consecutive nondiabetic individuals enrolled between January 2014 and January 2015, divided into NFG [normal fasting glucose, fasting blood glucose (FBG) < 5.

Introduction: The aim of the study was to reveal the mechanisms for the pathogenesis and progression of type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM).

Material And Methods: Two mRNA expression profiles and two miRNA expression profiles were downloaded from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database. The differentially expressed genes (DEGs), differentially expressed miRNAs (DEMs), functional enrichment analyses, pathways, putative targets for DEMs and the miRNA-gene pairs, protein-protein pairs of DEGs, and PPI network were constructed.

Introduction: The objective of this paper was to investigate the clinical features and pulmonary CT imaging features of COVID-19 patients with diabetes mellitus.

Material And Methods: From January 16, 2020 to March 28, 2020, among the 568 cases of COVID-19 patients diagnosed in Xiaogan Central Hospital, 64 cases of COVID-19 patients with diabetes were selected as the diabetic group, and 64 cases of COVID-19 patients with age and gender matching without diabetes were selected as the non-diabetic group, and their clinical data and pulmonary CT characteristics were retrospectively analysed.

Results: Compared with the non-diabetic group, the proportion of patients in the diabetic group with chronic underlying disease was higher, and they were in more a serious condition at admission.

Introduction: The aim of this study was to explore the association between thyroid hormones and abdominal fat quantities in euthyroid post-menopausal women.

Material And Methods: Serum levels of thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH), free triiodothyronine (fT3), and free thyroxine (fT4) as well as body mass index (BMI) and waist circumference (WC) were collected from 540 euthyroid post menopausal women aged 45-65 years. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) was performed to measure visceral adipose tissue (VAT) and subcutaneous adipose tissue (SAT) area.

Introduction: The objective of the study was to detect the levels of osteoprotegerin (OPG) and 25-hydroxyvitamin D [25(OH)D], as well as the expression of bone sialoprotein (BSP) mRNA, in the peripheral blood of patients with newly diagnosed type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) under different bone mass conditions, and to explore its role and significance in the development process of T2DM combined with osteoporosis (OP).

Material And Methods: A total of 225 patients hospitalised in the Endocrinology Department and General Department from May 2017 to May 2018 were enrolled and categorised into five groups: the pure T2DM group (group A, 45 patients), the bone mass reduction group (group B, 45 patients), the T2DM + bone mass reduction group (group C, 45 patients), the OP group (group D, 45 patients), and the T2DM + OP group (group E, 45 patients); meanwhile, age-matched healthy subjects undergoing physical examination in our hospital were collected as the normal control group (group NC, 45 cases). Logistic regression analysis was used to analyse the influencing factors of bone mass in patients with T2DM.

Introduction: C1q/TNF-related Protein-3 (CTRP3) is a novel adipokine with multiple effects such as lowering glucose levels, inhibiting glyconeogenesis in the liver, and increasing angiogenesis and anti-inflammation. But little is known about the effects of CTRP3 on insulin resistance in adipose tissue. This study aims to investigate the effects and mechanisms of CTRP3 on the insulin sensitivity of 3T3-L1 adipocytes.
