Background: Self-expandable percutaneous pulmonary valve implantation (PPVI) for native right ventricular outflow tract lesions is still in the clinical trial phase. The aim of this study is to present the result of feasibility study of a novel self-expandable knitted nitinol wire stent mounted with a treated trileaflet α-Gal-free porcine pericardial valve for PPVI.

Methods And Results: A feasibility study using Pulsta valve (TaeWoong Medical Co, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea) was designed for patients with severe pulmonary regurgitation in the native right ventricular outflow tract, and 6-month follow-up outcomes were reviewed.

The impact of inpatient palliative care on end-of-life care among older trauma patients who die after hospital discharge.

Background: Palliative care (PC) is associated with lower-intensity treatment and better outcomes at the end of life. Trauma surgeons play a critical role in end-of-life (EOL) care; however, the impact of PC on health care utilization at the end of life has yet to be characterized in older trauma patients.

Methods: This retrospective cohort study using 2006 to 2011 national Medicare claims included trauma patients 65 years or older who died within 180 days after discharge.

Background: Peripartum cardiomyopathy (PPCM) is a rare disorder associated with pregnancy that can lead to life-threatening conditions. The incidence and clinical characteristics of this condition remain poorly understood.

Methods And Results: We aimed to perform the first population-based study of PPCM in South Korea, using the Korea National Health Insurance Claims Database of the Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service.

Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and its bioactive compounds may have suppressive effects on inflammation, endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress, and insulin resistance. Protectin DX (PDX), a double lipoxygenase product from DHA has shown a suppressive effect on inflammation and insulin resistance. However, the effects of PDX on ER stress and hepatic steatosis have not been elucidated yet.

Objectives: To investigate the topographic factors related to axial length (AL) growth rate in orthokeratology.

Methods: Clinical data of myopic children with orthokeratology lenses from 2010 to 2016 were investigated. Corneal topography (Orbscan II) and IOLMaster-measured AL at baseline and every posttreatment visit were analyzed.

Sex Difference in Patients With Ischemic Heart Failure Undergoing Surgical Revascularization: Results From the STICH Trial (Surgical Treatment for Ischemic Heart Failure).

Background: Female sex is conventionally considered a risk factor for coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) and has been included as a poor prognostic factor in multiple cardiac operative risk evaluation scores. We aimed to investigate the association of sex and the long-term benefit of CABG in patients with ischemic left ventricular dysfunction enrolled in the prospective STICH trial (Surgical Treatment for Ischemic Heart Failure Study).

Methods: The STICH trial randomized 1212 patients (148 [12%] women and 1064 [88%] men) with coronary artery disease and left ventricular ejection fraction ≤35% to CABG+medical therapy (MED) versus MED alone.

Apalutamide Treatment and Metastasis-free Survival in Prostate Cancer.

Background: Apalutamide, a competitive inhibitor of the androgen receptor, is under development for the treatment of prostate cancer. We evaluated the efficacy of apalutamide in men with nonmetastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer who were at high risk for the development of metastasis.

Methods: We conducted a double-blind, placebo-controlled, phase 3 trial involving men with nonmetastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer and a prostate-specific antigen doubling time of 10 months or less.

Comparison of Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Quality Between Standard Versus Telephone-Basic Life Support Training Program in Middle-Aged and Elderly Housewives: A Randomized Simulation Study.

Introduction: For cardiac arrests witnessed at home, the witness is usually a middle-aged or older housewife. We compared the quality of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) performance of bystanders trained with the newly developed telephone-basic life support (T-BLS) program and those trained with standard BLS (S-BLS) training programs.

Methods: Twenty-four middle-aged and older housewives without previous CPR education were enrolled and randomized into two groups of BLS training programs.

Genome editing technologies have been revolutionized by the discovery of prokaryotic RNA-guided defense system called CRISPR-Cas. Cas9, a single effector protein found in type II CRISPR systems, has been at the heart of this genome editing revolution. Nearly half of the Cas9s discovered so far belong to the type II-C subtype but have not been explored extensively.

Transporter Expression in Noncancerous and Cancerous Liver Tissue from Donors with Hepatocellular Carcinoma and Chronic Hepatitis C Infection Quantified by LC-MS/MS Proteomics.

Protein expression of major hepatobiliary drug transporters (NTCP, OATPs, OCT1, BSEP, BCRP, MATE1, MRPs, and P-gp) in cancerous (C, = 8) and adjacent noncancerous (NC, = 33) liver tissues obtained from patients with chronic hepatitis C with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCV-HCC) were quantified by LC-MS/MS proteomics. Herein, we compare our results with our previous data from noninfected, noncirrhotic (control, = 36) and HCV-cirrhotic ( = 30) livers. The amount of membrane protein yielded from NC and C HCV-HCC tissues decreased (31%, 67%) relative to control livers.

The first total synthesis of a derivative of a 20-deoxybryostatin, namely 7-des-O-pivaloyl-7-O-benzylbryostatin 10 is described. Preliminary studies demonstrated that the modified Julia reactions of 2-benzothiazolylsulfones corresponding to the C17-C27 fragment with aldehydes corresponding to the C1-C16 fragment, provided an efficient and stereoselective assembly of advanced intermediates with the (E)-16,17-double-bond. The synthesis of the C1-C16 fragment was then modified so that the C1 acid was present as its allyl ester before the Julia coupling.

Clinical Targeted Next-Generation Sequencing Shows Increased Mutational Load in Endometrioid-type Endometrial Adenocarcinoma With Deficient DNA Mismatch Repair.

A subset of endometrial adenocarcinomas (EACs) exhibit microsatellite instability and have deficient DNA mismatch repair (dMMR). The overall aim of the study was to compare the spectrum of mutations in endometrioid-type EAC with and without dMMR by using a clinically validated next-generation sequencing assay. We retrospectively identified 19 EACs with known mismatch repair status that had undergone targeted sequencing of a panel of cancer-related genes.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the clinical outcomes of patients with procedural rupture of unruptured saccular intracranial aneurysms compared with those with spontaneously ruptured aneurysms.

Materials And Methods: A retrospective review was performed for 1340 patients with 1595 unruptured saccular intracranial aneurysms that underwent endovascular coil embolization between February 2010 and December 2014.

Purpose To investigate the value of the combined use of elastography and color Doppler ultrasonography (US) with B-mode US for evaluation of screening US-detected breast masses in women with dense breasts. Materials and Methods This prospective, multicenter study included asymptomatic women with dense breasts who were referred for screening US between November 2013 and December 2014. Eligible women had a newly detected breast mass at conventional B-mode US screening, for which elastography and color Doppler US were performed.

Background: Previous studies have demonstrated inconsistent neurophysiologic effects of ketamine, although discrepant findings might relate to differences in doses studied, brain regions analyzed, coadministration of other anesthetic medications, and resolution of the electroencephalograph. The objective of this study was to characterize the dose-dependent effects of ketamine on cortical oscillations and functional connectivity.

Screening for Atrial Fibrillation: A Report of the AF-SCREEN International Collaboration.

Approximately 10% of ischemic strokes are associated with atrial fibrillation (AF) first diagnosed at the time of stroke. Detecting asymptomatic AF would provide an opportunity to prevent these strokes by instituting appropriate anticoagulation. The AF-SCREEN international collaboration was formed in September 2015 to promote discussion and research about AF screening as a strategy to reduce stroke and death and to provide advocacy for implementation of country-specific AF screening programs.

Prevalence of Traumatic Findings on Routine MRI in a Large Cohort of Professional Fighters.

Background And Purpose: Previous studies investigating MR imaging abnormalities among fighters have had small sample sizes. This investigation assessed a large number of fighters using the same conventional sequences on the same scanner.

Materials And Methods: Conventional 3T MR imaging was used to assess 499 fighters (boxers, mixed martial artists, and martial artists) and 62 controls for nonspecific WM changes, cerebral microhemorrhage, cavum septum pellucidum, and cavum vergae.
