The demand for practical implementation of rechargeable lithium-oxygen batteries (LOBs) has grown owing to their extremely high theoretical energy density. However, the factors determining the performance of cell-level high energy density LOBs remain unclear. In this study, LOBs with a stacked-cell configuration were fabricated and their performance evaluated under different experimental conditions to clarify the unique degradation phenomenon under lean-electrolyte and high areal capacity conditions.

Objective: We investigated whether the local administration of simvastatin affected both the cellular events and the bone formation at surgically created bone defects in rat.
Study Design: Simvastatin (or a vehicle) was injected into a rat bony defect for 3 consecutive days from the day of surgery. Five or ten days after the injection, new bone tissue was collected, and the gene expressions of bone-related proteins were examined.

Bioactive ceramics, notably hydroxyapatite, have been used clinically in various situations in which bone augmentation and restoration are required. Particulate material has been used either alone or in conjunction with freeze dried or autologous bone, with variable clinical success. In this study a bioactive glass, 45S5 Bioglass, has been compared with hydroxyapatite in an animal model to discover whether the 2 major disadvantages of hydroxyapatite may be overcome.
