In salt marsh ecosystems, daggerblade grass shrimp, Palaemon (Palaemonetes) pugio, play a crucial role in food webs and serve as the definitive host for the bopyrid isopod Probopyrus pandalicola. These ectoparasites infest the branchial chambers of grass shrimp, which can lead to decreased energy availability and sterilization of infected hosts. Although bopyrid isopod infestation of daggerblade grass shrimp has been frequently reported in literature from coastal marshes of the southeastern United States, the prevalence of this parasite has not been recently documented in daggerblade grass shrimp from marshes of the northeastern United States.

Evidence of microplastics from benthic jellyfish (Cassiopea xamachana) in Florida estuaries.

Plastic pollution is a concern in many nearshore ecosystems, and it is critical to understand how microplastics (plastics <5 mm in length) affect nearshore marine biota. Here, we report the presence of microplastics in the benthic, upside-down jellyfish (Cassiopea xamachana) across three estuaries in south Florida. Microplastics were recovered from Cassiopea using an acid digestion, then enumerated via microscopy, and identified using micro Fourier-transform interferometer (μFTIR) analysis.

The role of Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) in the biology and clinical characteristics of diffuse large B cell lymphoma (DLBCL) is still poorly defined. A new provisional entity EBV-positive DLBCL of the elderly has been described in Asian population. Its incidence and prognosis remains unknown in middle European patients.

Antigenic profile of muscularis mucosae and muscularis propria of the urinary bladder.

Background: Differentiation between the muscularis mucosae (MM) and muscularis propria (MP) of the bladder remains challenging.

Objective: To identify MM- and MP-specific antigens that could be of potential value for staging of urothelial carcinoma in a pilot study.
