Piriform cortex is an ictogenic trigger zone in the primate brain.

Objective: Area tempestas, a functionally defined region in the anterior piriform cortex, was identified as a crucial ictogenic trigger zone in the rat brain in the 1980s. However, whether the primate piriform cortex can trigger seizures remains unknown. Here, in a nonhuman primate model, we aimed to localize a similar trigger zone in the piriform cortex and, subsequently, evaluated the ability of focal inhibition of the substantia nigra pars reticulata (SNpr) to suppress the evoked seizures.

Leprosy: The age-old companion of humans - Re-evaluation and comparative analysis of Avar-period cases with Hansen's disease from the Danube-Tisza Interfluve, Hungary.

In recent years, our knowledge of leprosy in the past has substantially been enriched. Nonetheless, much still remains to be discovered, especially in regions and periods from where no written sources are available. To fill in some research gaps, we provide the comparative analysis of eight Avar-period leprosy cases from the Danube-Tisza Interfluve (Hungary).

The association of resilience, social connections, and internal locus of control with pain outcomes among older adults.

Our objective was to investigate the hypothesis that psychological resources, including resilience, social connections, and internal locus of control, separately and in additive combinations, would be associated with selected pain outcomes: 1) days of opioid use and 2) medical/drug expenditures over 2 years. A mailed survey was sent to a stratified sample of older adults age≥65 with diagnosed back pain, osteoarthritis, and/or rheumatoid arthritis. Each of the resources was dichotomized as high/low and/or counted with equal weighting.
