Quality of Life and Adherence to Therapy in Patients With Chronic Myeloid Leukemia Treated With Nilotinib as a Second-Line Therapy: A Multicenter Prospective Observational Study.

Introduction: The aim of this study was to evaluate quality of life (QOL) and adherence to the therapy in patients with chronic myeloid leukemia in chronic phase treated with nilotinib as second-line therapy.

Patients And Methods: A multicenter, prospective, observational trial with 6 time points was conducted; 177 patients were recruited in 23 centers in Poland who were treated with nilotinib as second-line therapy because of the ineffectiveness or intolerance of their previous therapy. QOL was evaluated with the standard European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer Core Quality of Life questionnaire.

Pure red cell aplasia due to parvovirus B19 infection transmitted probably through hematopoietic stem cell transplantation.

Human parvovirus B19 is a very common infectious pathogen in humans. In healthy subjects, B19 infection is the cause of a self-limiting subclinical erythroid aplasia, followed by rash or arthralgia. In immunocompromised patients B19 can cause chronic anemia.

Candida infections in the immunocompromised patients represent a major therapeutic challenge. In immunocompromised host candidiasis can range from asymptomatic oral thrush to life-threatening candidemia. Invasive Candida infections parallel increase in the immunocompromised patient population and are characterized by high mortality.

[Examination of skin microcirculation with laser-Doppler flowmetry in patients with essential hypertension].

The estimation of microcirculatory parameters in patients with essential hypertension and in normotensic control group was the aim of this study. The study group consisted of 14 patients with essential hypertension confirmed by 24-hours ABP. 10 healthy patients served as control group.

[Potential role of the endothelium in pathogenesis of atherosclerosis].

The endothelium has an unique role at the interface of the blood and the tissues. It is involved in numerous homeostatic function, metabolism of lipoproteins, regulation of vascular tone and plays a role in the immune response.
