The reduction of antimicrobial susceptibility testing (AST) time-to-result is a central need, especially in sepsis treatment. The current automated rapid ASTs are still too expensive for many laboratories. We aimed to evaluate three pre-treatment methods for a same-day inoculation on both automated AST platforms available in our laboratory.

Objectives: This study aimed to assess the effects of different magnification systems on the angular deviations of the neck and trunk and the muscle activities of the upper back and neck during preclinical cavity preparation.

Methods: This was an experimental laboratory study, with the angular deviations from the neutral positions of the neck and trunk and the activities of the bilateral upper back (the descending and ascending trapezius) and neck (sternocleidomastoid) muscles as the dependent variables. The independent variables were the different magnification systems used (Simple, Galilean, and Keplerian loupes, with direct vision as the control) and prepared teeth (teeth 16, 26, 36, and 46).

Article Synopsis
  • - The study evaluated the safety and effectiveness of penile-sparing surgery (PSS) in 13 patients who had local recurrence of penile cancer after prior surgeries (glansectomy or partial penectomy) from 1997 to 2022.
  • - Most patients had glansectomy prior to PSS, with various surgical techniques utilized, and only one instance of a moderate complication was noted during treatment, which generally took place in an outpatient setting.
  • - After a median follow-up of 41 months, local recurrence was seen in 23% of patients and was successfully treated with additional surgery, highlighting the need for further studies to refine patient selection for better oncological outcomes.

Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) is one of the most frequently diagnosed tumors and a leading cause of death. The high risk of local recurrence and distant metastases represent a significant clinical issue. Different image-guided ablation techniques can be applied for their treatment as an alternative to surgery, radiotherapy or systemic treatments.

CrossFit is a high-intensity training related to physical fitness and respiratory capacity that can promote changes in lung function. This cross-sectional study was aimed at evaluating respiratory muscle strength, electromyographic (EMG) activity, and lung capacity in CrossFit athletes. Thirty subjects aged between 25 and 35 years were divided into groups: CrossFit athletes (n=15) and sedentary individuals without comorbidities (n=15).
