Candida glabrata prosthetic joint infection, successfully treated with anidulafungin: A case report and review of the literature.

Non-albicans Candida prosthetic joint infection (PJI) is extremely rare. A case of a Candida glabrata knee PJI is a 68-year-old splenectomised female smoker, suffering from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and alcoholism is reported. The patient presented with a peri-prosthetic fracture, 15 years after total knee replacement surgery.

Polyostotic bone and bone marrow lesions in children may be due to various disorders. Radiographically, lytic lesions may become apparent after loss of more than 50% of the bone mineral content. Scintigraphy requires osteoblastic activity and is not specific.

Multiple injuries in vital organs in a child from a gunshot: a case report.

Introduction: Many people in rural and urban areas own a gun legally or illegally. It is a social phenomenon that apart from the adults, the children become familiar with the guns in early age.

Case Presentation: A nine year old boy was shot by accident by his uncle, who was cleaning his gun (carbine) close to where the child was playing.

Bilateral gluteal metastases from a misdiagnosed intrapelvic gastrointestinal stromal tumor.

Background: The location of gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST) outside of the gastrointestinal system is a rare event.

Case Presentation: A 56-year old woman presented with a GIST of the pelvis was misdiagnosed and treated as a uterine leiomyosarcoma. The diagnosis was made after the CD117 (KIT) positivity in the biopsy of the excised bowel mass four years from the first presentation.

Bone formation blocking closure of the expanded distal fins during removal of a Seidel humeral nail.

The authors report the case of a young patient in which, during removal of a Seidel nail four years after healing of a mid shaft fracture of the humerus, bone formation into the central canal of the nail through the peripheral slots, prevented the three spread distal fins of the nail to close. The nail could only be extracted by forceful use of the extracting instrument, fortunately without complication.
