Flexor tendon injuries are a commonly encountered hand problem caused by trauma. They can be associated with fractures or neurovascular injury or occur in isolation. Thorough physical examination is an integral aspect of management of these injuries to identify concomitant pathology and to facilitate preoperative planning and timing of surgery to improve outcome.

Effect of Surgical Start Time on Length of Stay, Morbidity Rate, and Surgical Risk in Elective Total Hip Arthroplasty.

There is conflicting literature regarding the effect of surgical start time for total hip arthroplasty (THA) on morbidity. This study examined outcomes between start time groups in elective THA. A retrospective review identified patients undergoing elective cementless primary THA between 2009 and 2019.

Acute Compartment Syndrome in the Athlete.

In sports, acute compartment syndrome (ACS) develops following lower limb fracture, with subsequent high intracompartmental pressures and pain out of proportion to the physical examination. A prompt diagnosis is the key to a successful outcome in patients with ACS. The goal of treatment of ACS, namely decompressive fasciotomy, is to reduce intracompartmental pressure and facilitate reperfusion of ischemic tissue before onset of necrosis.

Do Intra-articular Corticosteroid Injections Prior to Total Knee Arthroplasty Increase Postoperative Complication Rates: A Retrospective Review.

There is conflicting literature suggesting that intra-articular corticosteroid injections before total knee arthroplasty (TKA) may lead to an increase in the rate of postoperative complications, specifically periprosthetic joint infection (PJI). Thus, this retrospective review of all TKAs performed at a large, urban hospital will add valuable evidence to help guide future patient care. After exclusion criteria, we retrospectively reviewed 417 patients who received a TKA from a group of fellowship-trained orthopaedic surgeons between 2009 and 2016 at a single academic medical center.
