The paper gives the current aspects of the etiology and pathogenesis of acute tonsillopharyngitis and its complications. Correct evaluation of the clinical manifestations of the disease is noted to be of importance in choosing adequate treatment policy and preventing unfavorable trends in the development of the disease. Antibacterial therapy for streptococcal tonsillopharyngitis is emphasized to be of significance.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFThe present review encompasses the publications concerning peculiarities of blood supply of palatal tonsils, the frequency and variants of the anomalous structure of internal carotid artery. Analysis of the literature data has shown that the anomalous vascular structure is one of the important risk factors of the development of intra- and postoperative hemorrhage, besides redundant blood supply of the oropharynx, inflammatory changes in the tissue of tonsils and peritonsillar region. Special attention is given to the peculiarities of diagnostics of such conditions.

The present paper summarized the recently published data on the prevalence, etiology, pathogenesis, diagnostics, and treatment of otogenic intracranial complications. The results of statistical analysis of the prevalence of otogenic intracranial complications are presented in conjunction with the data on their structure and the frequency of selected nosological forms. The authors emphasize the importance of the problems concerning the choice of the therapeutic strategy for the management of otogenic intracranial complications.

The importance of the adequate medicamental treatment of the main components of the inflammatory process in the outer and middle ears is emphasized. The medicinal products possessed of local antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory activities are shown to have advantages over other preparations used for the management of the above pathologies.

This publication deals with the problems pertaining to the improvement of the system of the post-graduate education in otorhinolaryngology with special reference to one of its topical fields, clinical rhinology. The authors emphasize the importance of one of the principal components of the post-graduate education under the present-day conditions, namely organization of control and self-control of learning the new material, self-monitoring and individual correction of the level of knowledge. Special attention is given to the training tests that can be used to adequately simulate the decision-making process with respect to a concrete clinical situation.
