Purpose: The goal was to evaluate whether implicit talker familiarization via an interactive computer game, designed for this study, could improve children's word recognition in classroom noise. It was hypothesized that, regardless of age, children would perform better when recognizing words spoken by the talker who was heard during the game they played.

Method: Using a one-group pretest-posttest experimental design, this study examined the impact of short-term implicit voice exposure on children's word recognition in classroom noise.

Adenocarcinoma was studied of varying degrees of histologic malignancy localized in the large intestine (80 cases). A set of qualitative parameters for each degree of differentiation have been developed with a selection of certain criteria, such as indices for the fraction by volume of proliferating DNA-synthesizing cells and percentage of pathologic mitoses together with the cytometric parameters, having been done from the general sum of the values. The above characteristics reflect significantly the dynamics of development of the processes of malignancy; they might help, we believe, in providing an adequate approach for treating morbid conditions and predicting their outcomes.

Qualitative and quantitative changes in secretion of goblet cells of large bowel mucosa in adenomatous polyps (60), adenocarcinoma (30) and bioptates of adjacent transitional mucosa (30) were studied. As neoplasia progressed, mucin profile appeared to follow a certain pattern: it reached its peak in moderate dysplasia in polyps containing predominantly sulphomucins; subsequently both sulphomucin and sialomucin levels decreased. Adenocarcinomas showed a sharp drop in glycoprotein level, and an insignificant build-up of sialomucins was registered in some cases only.

The amplitude-time and velocity parameters of QRS complex and T wave were compared with intraoperative values of aerobic and anaerobic myocardial energy metabolism (as shown by left auricle biopsy) in 187 patients with mitral valve disease with predominant stenosis. The ECG elements were demonstrated to be of informative value for the evaluation of myocardial energy metabolism and the clinical condition of the patients. The ratio of descending T wave downsloping to its ascending upsloping rates, as well as the amplitude-time parameter of QRS complex and T wave were demonstrated to be closely related to myocardial energy metabolism.

A study was made of the effect of continuous hyperbaric oxygenation (HBO) on the ECG and the clinical status of 60 patients with crush syndrome. Of these, 15 persons had acute renal failure (ARF). Before the treatment was started, the patients demonstrated tachycardia, myocardial hypoxia, derangement of nutrition and coronary circulation.
