The pathogenesis of COVID-19 warrants unravelling. Genetic polymorphism analysis may help answer the variability in disease outcome. To determine the role of KIR and HLA polymorphisms in susceptibility, progression, and severity of SARS-CoV-2 infection, 458 patients and 667 controls enrolled in this retrospective observational study from April to December 2020.

Article Synopsis
  • Atrial fibrillation (AF) and heart failure (HF) patients are at high risk for serious complications, and anticoagulation therapy, specifically rivaroxaban, is recommended for them.
  • This study investigated risk factors for worsening HF in AF and HF patients taking rivaroxaban in Spain, involving 672 patients across multiple centers.
  • After 2 years, 24.9% of the patients experienced worsening HF, with older age and specific medical histories identified as risk factors; only a small percentage stopped taking rivaroxaban.

Introduction: Multiple attempts during peripheral cannulation can have major consequences for patients, relatives, and healthcare professionals, therefore we set out to determine the extent of this problem in a paediatric intensive care unit (PICU).

Objectives: The main aim was to describe peripheral venous catheter (PVC) and peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC) cannulation in children in the PICU. Secondary objectives were to determine the success rate of the first cannulation attempt, to quantify patients with difficult venous access (DVA), and to explore the association between DVA and sociodemographic, technique and nursing-related characteristics.

Background: The evidence for the efficacy of glucocorticoids combined with tocilizumab (TCZ) in COVID-19 comes from observational studies or subgroup analysis. Our aim was to compare outcomes between hospitalized COVID-19 patients who received high-dose corticosteroid pulse therapy and TCZ and those who received TCZ.

Methods: A retrospective single-center study was performed on consecutive hospitalized patients with severe COVID-19 between 1 March and 23 April 2020.
