[Characterization of the Structure of the Prokaryotic Complex of Antarctic Permafrost by Molecular Genetic Techniques].

A prokaryotic mesophilic organotrophic community responsible for 10% of the total microbial number determined by epifluorescence microscopy was reactivated in the samples ofAntarctic permafrost retrieved from the environment favoring long-term preservation of microbial communities (7500 years). No culturable forms were obtained without resuscitation procedures (CFU = 0). Proteobacteria, Actinobacteria, and Firmicutes were the dominant microbial groups in the complex.

[Hormonal markers of cognitive impairment in patients with the first stroke].

The relationship between the content of serum hormones (thyrotrophic hormone, thyroxin, dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA), DHEA sulfate, prolactin) and cognitive impairment at the acute phase of ischemic stroke in the 1(st), 7(th) and 21(st) day was investigated. There was the correlation between the hormone concentrations and severity of cognitive impairment. This finding supports the role of the hormones in cognitive functioning and their impairment in the acute phase of stroke.

[Influence of the activator of transcription GAL4 on growth and development of embryos and embryonic cells in primary cultures of sand dollar].

In order to solve many tasks of biotechnology, constant lines of the cells of marine invertebrates with a high growth potential are required, which are absent at present. We used the universal activator of transcription gal4 to change the degree of expression of genes of growth factors in embryonic sea urchin cells and, thereby, increase their proliferative activity. The fertilized sea urchin eggs and dissociated embryonic cells at the blastula stage were treated with plasmids containing both the functional gene gal4 and the gene devoid of the regions encoding the activator domain.

[ACE gene polymorphism in patients with ischemic brain disease].

The aim of the present study was to define participation of gene angiotensine converting enzyme (ACE) in the development of atherothrombotic ischemic stroke. 153 patients with cerebrovascular disease were enrolled. The first group consisted of 50 patients with hemispheric atherothrombotic ischemic stroke and their 55 siblings.
