This review is designed to consider neurophysiological aspects of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Current concepts of enhanced activity of the sympathetic nervous system and the role of hypothalamo-pituitary-adrenal axis in the development of major clinical manifestations of PTSD are presented. Mechanisms of memory impairment, phobic reactions, hyperactivity, obsession, and sleep disturbances associated with PTSD are discussed.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFThe aim of the study is to analyse the structure, clinical course, and outcomes of ischemic stroke in neuorologic departments of a specialized clinic for optimization of preventive and rehabilitative treatment in patients of hazardous employment, such as servicemen, peace-keepers, members of special force and counter-terrorism action groups, participants of local wars, and armed conflicts. A total of 242 acute ischemic cerebrovascular attacks were analysed using data from case records for 2004 to 2007. The frequency of stroke was estimated with reference to age, gender, risk factors, social status, and subtypes of ischemic stroke.

The purpose of researches is optimization of preventive and neurorehabilitation measures of persons of "dangerous" professions. There were 242 cases of acute violation of cerebral circulation in ischemic type according to formalized case records during the period 2004-2006 years.
