Truncated hemoglobins (TrHbs) have an ancient origin and are widely distributed in microorganisms where they often serve roles other than dioxygen transport and storage. In extremophiles, these small heme proteins must have features that secure function under challenging conditions: at minimum, they must be folded, retain the heme group, allow substrates to access the heme cavity, and maintain their quaternary structure if present and essential. The genome of the obligate psychropiezophile Shewanella benthica strain KT99 harbors a gene for a TrHb belonging to a little-studied clade of globins (subgroup 2 of group N).

We investigated acceptability and likely impacts of these measures among people who smoke or who recently (≤2 years) quit smoking.
Method: We analysed data from 1,230 participants from Wave 3 (conducted in late 2020 and early 2021) and 615 participants from Wave 3.
Using data from the Adolescent Brain Cognitive Development study (n = 3928), we examined how police contact relates to sleep problems, anxiety, and depressive symptoms during middle adolescence (M age = 14.09; SD = 0.68).

Methods: Genetic evaluation was performed via a multi-gene panel of genes associated with primary ciliary dyskinesia and multiple morphological abnormalities of the sperm flagella (MMAF) prior to the couple's in vitro fertilization (IVF) cycle.

The Satisfaction With Life Scale (SWLS) is a widely used self-report measure of subjective well-being, but studies of its measurement invariance across a large number of nations remain limited. Here, we utilised the Body Image in Nature (BINS) dataset-with data collected between 2020 and 2022 -to assess measurement invariance of the SWLS across 65 nations, 40 languages, gender identities, and age groups (N = 56,968). All participants completed the SWLS under largely uniform conditions.
