Article Synopsis
  • - Dry eye disease (DED) is primarily caused by inflammation on the surface of the eye, and treating it effectively starts with early anti-inflammatory medications like cyclosporine A (CsA).
  • - There is a lack of comprehensive recommendations for how to use topical CsA in treating DED in real-world clinical settings.
  • - The article provides expert consensus on practical guidelines for DED management, covering when to start CsA, how long to use it, comparing CsA products approved in Russia, and the importance of educating patients.

Objectives: Increased plasma gamma-glutamyl transferase (GGT1) has been identified as a robust and independent risk factor for ischemic stroke (IS), but the molecular mechanisms of the enzyme-disease association are unclear. The present study investigated whether polymorphisms in the GGT1 gene contribute to IS susceptibility.

Materials And Methods: DNA samples obtained from 1288 unrelated individuals (600 IS patients and 688 controls) were genotyped for common single nucleotide polymorphisms of GGT1 using the MassArray-4 platform.

Unlabelled: In recent years, among artificial tear preparations that have additional metabolic properties, in addition to moisturizing the ocular surface, there has been a drug Optinol Soft Recovery (LLC JADRAN). In addition to 0.15% sodium hyaluronate, it contains 2% dexpanthenol, which stimulates reparative regeneration of the corneal epithelium, in particular in patients with dry eye syndrome (DES).

Unlabelled: In recent decades, there has been an increase in the prevalence of dry eye disease (DED) not only in older people, but also in young people, which is potentially associated with the use of digital devices. Early detection of signs of DED and the appointment of preventive tear replacement therapy can help stabilize the tear film and slow down the progression of the disease.

Purpose: To study risk factors, prevalence and clinical manifestations of DED in young people, to determine indications and evaluate the effectiveness of treatment with artificial tears.

Dental calculus is becoming a crucial material in the study of past populations with increasing interest in its proteomic and genomic content. Here, we suggest further development of a protocol for analysis of ancient proteins and a combined approach for subsequent ancient DNA extraction. We tested the protocol on recent teeth, and the optimized protocol was applied to ancient tooth to limit the destruction of calculus as it is a precious and irreplaceable source of dietary, microbiological, and ecological information in the archeological context.
