The purpose of coatings is to protect or enhance the functionality of the substrate material, irrespective of the field in which the material was designed. The use of coatings in medicine is rapidly expanding with the objective of enhancing the osseointegration ability of metallic materials such as titanium. The aim of this study was to obtain biomimetic hydroxyapatite (HAp)-based coatings on titanium by using the pulsed galvanostatic method.

Background And Objectives: The importance of hematological parameters has started to be explored with increased interest in many fields lately, with different studies finding an association between those parameters and inflammatory status, atherosclerosis, comorbidities, malnutrition, neoplasia and even a faster progression of chronic kidney disease (CKD). On the other hand, CKD itself presents as an inflammatory condition, in which a lot of pathways are modified and the response to an infectious agent could be less than expected. Regarding the latter aspect, in this study we aim to explore the differences between the hematologic response during a lower versus upper urinary tract infection in patients with CKD.

FTIR (Fourier transformed infrared spectrometry) and XRD (X-ray diffraction) analyses were used to compare the changes in the cellulose microstructure caused by the following various ultrasonic treatment conditions: time, amplitude of generated ultrasound waves, output power converted into ultrasound, the liquid medium (water and isopropyl alcohol) used for ultrasonication, and the shape of the vessel used for sonication. The cumulative results lead to an increase in the crystalline region directly proportional to the condition of sonication.
