Cardiomeds, an mHealth App for Self-Management to Support Swiss Patients With Heart Failure: 2-Stage Mixed Methods Usability Study.

Background: Mobile health apps have shown promising results in improving self-management of several chronic diseases in patients. We have developed a mobile health app (Cardiomeds) dedicated to patients with heart failure (HF). This app includes an interactive medication list; daily self-monitoring of symptoms, weight, blood pressure, and heart rate; and educational information on HF delivered through various formats.

Risk of Surgical Site Infection in Posterior Spine Surgery Using Different Closing Techniques: A Retrospective Study of Two Neurosurgical Centers.

To determine whether a closed dressing protocol reduces the surgical site infections (SSI) rate compared to conventional closing techniques. Patients who underwent lumbar spine surgery at two neurosurgical centers were retrospectively included from June 2015 to December 2019. Data on patients, general risk factors, and surgical risk factors for SSI were collected.

Odontoid Fractures: A Review of the Current State of the Art.

Odontoid fractures (OFs) represent up to 15% of all cervical fractures encountered and present most commonly amongst elderly patients, typically in the setting of low energy trauma such as falls. The Anderson and D'Alonzo classification and Roy-Camille subtype description are the most clinically noteworthy descriptions of OFs used. Even though most patients will not present with neurological injury, mechanical instability can occur with type II and type III (Anderson and D'Alonzo) fractures, particularly if the transverse ligament of the atlas is ruptured; however, this is very rare.

Safety of beta-blocker discontinuation after acute coronary syndromes with preserved or mildly reduced left ventricular ejection fraction: a target trial emulation from a real-world cohort.

Aims: The benefit of long-term beta-blocker therapy after acute coronary syndromes (ACS) without heart failure in the reperfusion era is uncertain. Two recent randomized trials found conflicting results. The present study assessed the safety of beta-blocker discontinuation within 12 months following ACS with LVEF ≥40%.
