Frailty in Persons with Down Syndrome: Results from the REVIVIS Study.

Objectives: To determine frailty prevalence and identify possible nonclinical factors associated with this condition in community-dwelling individuals with Down syndrome (DS).

Design: Cross-sectional analysis of the registry study REVIVIS, a single-center, prospective study on the geriatric management of persons with DS.

Setting And Participants: Individuals with DS (n = 139) referred to a geriatric clinic.

Relationship among Age, Education and Frailty in Older Persons.

Preliminary data suggest that frailty tend to increase with age and is associated with fewer years of formal education. However, it is still unclear whether age and education synergistically act in the definition of frailty. Aim of the study is to evaluate the interaction between age and education in defining frailty in community-dwelling older persons.

Diagnosis and treatment of caecal volvulus.

Caecal volvulus is an infrequently encountered clinical condition and an uncommon cause of intestinal obstruction. Patients with this condition may present with highly variable clinical presentations ranging from intermittent, self limiting abdominal pain to acute abdominal pain associated with intestinal strangulation and sepsis. Lack of familiarity with this condition is a factor contributing to diagnostic and treatment delays.
