Prehospital ultrasound in emergency medicine: incidence, feasibility, indications and diagnoses.

Background: Sonography is an established diagnostic procedure in hospitals, but is not routinely used in prehospital emergency medicine. Several studies have addressed the use of ultrasound during helicopter flights and in emergency rooms, few in prehospital settings, but most focused on abdominal blunt trauma. Several case reports describe crucial decisions distinguished by ultrasound.

[Prognostic value of routine parameters and laboratory parameters after major trauma. A prospective preclinical-clinical study of air rescue patients].

In this prospective study, 273 air rescue patients with major blunt trauma were followed throughout their prehospital and clinical management. A blood sample was taken upon arrival and data acquired at three defined time points. With these data, for the first time a prognosis prediction model with prehospital and early clinical routine parameters and routine lab parameters was tested for predictive power.

Coincidental deficiency of the posterior arch of the atlas and thalassaemia minor: possible pitfalls in a trauma victim.

Congenital abnormalities of the cervical spine are rare findings in trauma victims. Deficiency of the posterior arch of the atlas and coincidental thalassaemia minor are even more unusual. This case report is about a young female trauma victim with both abnormalities, a combination that has previously not been described in literature.

Prospective documentation and analysis of the pre- and early clinical management in severe head injury in southern Bavaria at a population based level.

[Preclinical care of trauma patients in air rescue. Results of the medical quality management for patients with severe head injury and polytrauma in the years 2000 and 2001].

In a retrospective study of mission data of ADAC Air Rescue of the years 2000 and 2001 the quality of preclinical care of 1,946 patients with severe head injuries and 1,878 polytraumatized patients was examined. The actual preclinical care of these patients was compared with a catalogue of eleven thesis-like recommendations. These recommendations were previously derived from corresponding publications of national and international specialist companies and were introduced in a binding manner by the senior doctors of the participating air rescue centres.
