Article Synopsis
- A study was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of different irrigation techniques on root canal debridement in curved canals, specifically comparing their antimicrobial effects and ability to remove the smear layer.
- Eighty extracted molars were tested using four different irrigation methods: EndoVac, Passive Ultrasonic Irrigation (PUI), Photodynamic Therapy (PDT), and Laser Irrigation with Photon-Induced Photoacoustic Streaming (PIPS).
- Results indicated that while all techniques reduced biofilm, EndoVac, PUI, and PIPS were significantly better at removing the smear layer compared to PDT, suggesting that PIPS could be especially effective for root canal cleaning but needs more clinical research for validation.
