Removing the barriers to prehospital blood: A roadmap to success.

This review describes the necessity, evolution, and current state of prehospital blood programs in the United States. Less than 1% of 9-1-1 ground emergency medical service agencies have been able to successfully implement prehospital blood transfusions as part of a resuscitation strategy for patients in hemorrhagic shock despite estimates that annually between 54,000 and 900,000 patients may benefit from its use. The use of prehospital blood transfusions as a tool for managing hemorrhagic shock has barriers to overcome to ensure it becomes widely available to patients throughout the United States.

Commentary on gaps in prehospital trauma care: education and bioengineering innovations to improve outcomes in hemorrhage and traumatic brain injury.

Hemorrhage remains the leading cause of preventable death on the battlefield and the civilian arena. Many of these deaths occur in the prehospital setting. Traumatic brain injury also represents a major source of early mortality and morbidity in military and civilian settings.

Rethinking limb tourniquet conversion in the prehospital environment.

We have highlighted the issue of overuse of tourniquets and described why tourniquet conversion and replacement should be taught and done in the prehospital setting.

Weight Loss After Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy in Children and Adolescents.

Purpose: For children and adolescents with severe obesity, metabolic and bariatric surgery including laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG) is increasingly used to facilitate weight loss and reduce associated medical problems. Outcomes of LSG are understudied among patients under age 15 years. We sought to examine surgical complications and weight loss outcomes among children and adolescents who underwent LSG.

Evaluation of Culture Conducive to Academic Success by Gender at a Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Introduction: The primary objective of this study was to determine whether workplace culture in academic oncology differed by gender, during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Materials And Methods: We used the Culture Conducive to Women's Academic Success (CCWAS), a validated survey tool, to investigate the academic climate at an NCI-designated Cancer Center. We adapted the CCWAS to be applicable to people of all genders.
