Molecular characterization and immunopathological investigation of Avian reticuloendotheliosis virus in breeder flocks in Egypt.

Background: Reticuloendotheliosis virus (REV) is an oncogenic immunosuppressive retrovirus that infects different kinds of avian species; posing significant economic losses to the poultry industry worldwide.

Methods: In Egypt, there is an unidentified disease associated with the runting-stunting syndrome with neoplasia, suspected to be REV, that has been continuously monitored in several breeder flocks. To diagnose and analyze REV by cell cultures, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), histopathological investigation, the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test, and sequencing analysis, 200 blood samples, and 50 tissue specimens were collected.

Proteomic Analysis of Aqueous Humor in Central Retinal Artery Occlusion: Unveiling Novel Insights Into Disease Pathophysiology.

Purpose: Central retinal artery occlusion (CRAO) is an ocular emergency that results from acute blockage of the blood supply to the retina and leads to a sudden vision loss. Other forms of ischemic retinopathies include diabetic retinopathy (DR), which involves chronic retinal ischemia and remains the leading cause of blindness in working-age adults. This study is the first to conduct a proteomic analysis of aqueous humor (AH) from patients with CRAO with a comparative analysis using vitreous humor (VH) samples from patients with DR.

Ischemia-induced retinopathy is a hallmark finding of common visual disorders including diabetic retinopathy (DR) and central retinal artery and vein occlusions. Treatments for ischemic retinopathies fail to improve clinical outcomes and the design of new therapies will depend on understanding the underlying disease mechanisms. Histone deacetylases (HDACs) are an enzyme class that removes acetyl groups from histone and non-histone proteins, thereby regulating gene expression and protein function.

Case report: Headache as the sole neurological symptom in autoimmune glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) astrocytopathy.

Autoimmune glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) astrocytopathy is a recently emerging autoimmune disease of the central nervous system (CNS); GFAP astrocytopathy is characterized by optic neuritis and meningoencephalomyelitis. We report the case of a 55-year-old man, otherwise healthy, who presented with isolated headaches for three months, without other features of meningoencephalitis or myelitis. His neurological examination and fundoscopy were unremarkable.

Immunopathological investigation and genetic evolution of Avian leukosis virus Subgroup-J associated with myelocytomatosis in broiler flocks in Egypt.

Background: Avian leukosis virus Subgroup-J (ALV-J) is a rapidly oncogenic evolving retrovirus infecting a variety of avian species; causing severe economic losses to the local poultry industry.

Methods: To investigate ALV-J, a total of 117 blood samples and 57 tissue specimens of different organs were collected for virological, and pathological identification, serological examinations, molecular characterization, and sequencing analysis. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first detailed report recorded in broiler flocks in Egypt.
