Using concept mapping methods to evaluate overdose data to action program efforts in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania.

Background: The Pitt Public Health evaluation team used a mixed-methods, community-based participatory research method of concept mapping to evaluate factors affecting the Overdose Data to Action (OD2A) opioid overdose surveillance and prevention project outcomes for Allegheny County, Pennsylvania.

Methods: In June 2021 we developed the focal prompt: "What factors work to help or limit OD2A program outcomes at the individual, community, and or/system level?"Community partners participated in three phases: Brainstorming, Sorting and Rating, and Interpretation. Using concept mapping software, we applied multidimensional scaling to visualize a point map displaying factors and their relative relationships, and hierarchical cluster analysis to generate concept maps displaying clusters of factors.

A Large Percentage of Excision Specimens Show Residual Basal Cell Carcinoma: A Retrospective Chart Review.

Background: Treatment of basal cell carcinoma (BCC) is recommended. However, patients often note that the biopsy site appears resolved and inquire about the need for additional treatment.

Objective: This study aims to determine the rate of residual BCC on excision specimens after initial shave biopsy to aid in decision-making on the necessity of further treatment.

Fast absorbing gut sutures in dermatologic surgery: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Introduction: Fast gut cutaneous sutures have become more prominent due to their low tissue reactivity, rapid absorption, and elimination of suture removal visits. It is not known how fast gut sutures compare to other closure modalities.

Methods: A comprehensive literature review was conducted to identify randomized controlled trials comparing fast gut sutures to alternative closure methods during dermatologic surgery.

The Two-Stage Folded Paramedian Forehead Flap Without Cartilage Grafts for Full Thickness Distal Nasal Defects: A Review of 35 Patients.

Background: Full thickness defects of the ala, soft triangle, and nasal tip involving the nasal lining have traditionally been repaired with the three-stage folded paramedian forehead flap (FPFF), with a cartilage graft for support. For similar defects, the authors utilize the two-stage FPFF without cartilaginous support which provides reproducible functional and aesthetic results.  Objective: To describe the authors’ experience with the two-stage FPFF, including outcomes, complications, and design modifications to enhance functional and aesthetic success.
