Oral and Dental Pain Management.

Pain has been defined as an unpleasant sensory and emotional experience associated with or resembling that associated with actual or potential tissue damage. Pets often experience the same pain as people; however, dental pain is often overlooked, discounted, or unseen/hidden in patients, as the inability to communicate does not negate the possibility that a human or a nonhuman animal experiences pain. This article discusses types of pain and the methods and medications available to treat and prevent oral pain.

Developing national cancer survivorship standards to inform quality of care in the United States using a consensus approach.

Purpose: To develop United States (US) standards for survivorship care that informs (1) essential health system policy and process components and (2) evaluation of the quality of survivorship care.

Methods: The National Cancer Institute and the Department of Veterans Affairs led a review to identify indicators of quality cancer survivorship care in the domains of health system policy, process, and evaluation/assessment. A series of three virtual consensus meetings with survivorship care and research experts and advocates was conducted to rate the importance of the indicators and refine the top indicators.

Emergency thoracotomies in traumatic cardiac arrests following blunt trauma - experiences from a German level I trauma center.

Purpose: Resuscitative thoracotomies (RT) are the last resort to reduce mortality in patients suffering severe trauma. In recent years, indications for RT have been extended from penetrating to blunt trauma. However, discussions on efficacy are still ongoing, as data on this rarely performed procedure are often scarce.
