Thoracoscopy versus thoracotomy for esophageal atresia and tracheoesophageal fistula repair: review of the literature and meta-analysis.

Introduction: The thoracoscopic approach to esophageal atresia (EA) with tracheoesophageal fistula (TOF) represents a challenging procedure whose real benefits remains unclear. Our purpose is to identify, through a meta-analysis, clinical evidence of the reliability of the thoracoscopic repair (TR) for EA/TOF compared with the open repair.

Materials And Methods: Defined PubMed search, with analysis of intraoperative and postoperative complications after open or thoracoscopic primary anastomosis for EA/TOF.

Natural history of non-operative treatment for renal injuries in children.

Aim: Kidney is one of the solid organs injured in blunt abdominal traumas. Conservative management is well recognized in adults, but is still controversial in children. We performed a retrospective review regarding children with renal injuries observed at our Centre, analyzing the importance of a prompt diagnosis and the role of conservative treatment according to the degree of renal injury and natural history.

Anterior urethral valves in the fossa navicularis in a newborn: report of a case and review of the literature.

Anterior urethral valves in the fossa navicularis is an exceptionally uncommon causes of lower urinary tract obstruction in newborn. The authors report a case of anterior urethral valves in thefossa navicularis in an 5 days-old boy, that observation of the voided stream revealed a filiform micturition and marked ballooing of the penile urethra. The meatus was located normally and of normal calibre.
