Sensory analysis is a tool for determining cheese quality by tasting during official competitions, which are useful for revitalising the local cheese sector. This work aims to acquire information about the outcomes of official cheese tastings on Gran Canaria Island (Spain) and analyse this information to improve the sampling methodology, as a possible reference for similar events held elsewhere worldwide. The results of four consecutive tasting competitions were studied over 4 years.

Aim: To evaluate the impact of nurse care changes in implementing a blood pressure management protocol on achieving rapid, intensive and sustained blood pressure reduction in acute intracerebral haemorrhage patients.

Design: Retrospective cohort study of prospectively collected data over 6 years.

Methods: Intracerebral haemorrhage patients within 6 h and systolic blood pressure ≥ 150 mmHg followed a rapid (starting treatment at computed tomography suite with a target achievement goal of ≤60 min), intensive (target systolic blood pressure < 140 mmHg) and sustained (maintaining target stability for 24 h) blood pressure management plan.

Article Synopsis
  • Vibrio vulnificus is a harmful pathogen found in fish farms that causes a severe illness called warm-water vibriosis, leading to high fish mortality.
  • Recent studies indicate that fish deaths are more closely linked to the host's inflammatory response rather than direct damage from the pathogen itself.
  • The RtxA1 toxin is suggested as a major factor in triggering this harmful inflammatory response, with research showing that fish infected with a mutant lacking RtxA1 can survive despite still being able to invade and colonize.

Teleost fish lack organized structures in mucosal tissues such as those of mammals, but instead contain dispersed B and T cells with the capacity to respond to external stimuli. Nonetheless, there is still a great lack of knowledge regarding how B cells differentiate to plasmablasts/plasma cells in these mucosal surfaces. To contribute to a further understanding of the mechanisms through which fish mucosal B cells are activated, in the current study, we have studied the B cell responses in the skin and gills of rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) exposed to Yersinia ruckeri.

Introduction: Pediatric post-thyroidectomy hypocalcemia management varies significantly from hospital to hospital. The current study has two aims: first, we evaluate demographic data in all pediatric patients submitted to thyroid surgery in our Spanish tertiary hospital over 20 years; secondly, we describe the way that hypocalcemia was diagnosed and treated in that period and present a multidisciplinary protocol for perioperative management of this condition.

Methods: This is a retrospective and observational study of all patients from 0 to 16 years old who underwent thyroid surgery from 2000 to 2020 at our institution.
