Changes in volatile, key odorants and bioactive properties of pomegranate juice during processing into concentrate.

Key odorants of juices of pomegranate fruits of Hicaz variety obtained from different juice production stages (fresh: FrPJ, pasteurized: PPJ, filtered: FiPJ, and concentrated: CPJ) were examined. Processing significantly impacted the volatile compounds. The FrPJ and PPJ samples had higher concentrations of aroma compounds than the FiPJ and CPJ samples.

Toward Self-Powered Load Imbalance Detection for Instrumented Knee Implants Using Quadrant Triboelectric Energy Harvesters.

In this study, we proposed a triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG) as a pressure sensor to measure the load imbalance on the tibial tray. To detect the load imbalance, we proposed a segmented quadrant design. The TENG pressure sensors with various micro-patterns, including pyramid, cylindrical, and bar patterns, are utilized to measure the axial forces with different sensitivity in different quadrants of the tibial tray.

CD39 expression on immune cells predicts methotrexate response in rheumatoid arthritis patients.

Background/aim: Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic inflammatory disease affecting mostly small joints, such as hand and foot joints symmetrically with irreversible joint destruction. In this study, the relationship between CD39 expression and the treatment response of RA patients was examined to investigate its potential as a biomarker that demonstrates treatment response.

Materials And Methods: This study included 77 RA patients and 40 healthy controls (HC).

Laparoscopic Versus Open Surgery for Colorectal Cancers: Clinical and Pathological Outcomes from a Single Institution in Bahrain.

Introduction: Colorectal carcinoma is commonly diagnosed and accounts for an important cause of cancerrelated mortality worldwide. Despite that literature has shown the superiority of laparoscopic surgery, with improved short-term clinical benefits and equivalent oncological outcomes compared with open surgery for colorectal cancer, most cases are operated by open approach. The purpose of this study was to compare the clinical and pathological outcomes between laparoscopic and open colorectal cancer surgery at our institution.
