Unlabelled: The goal of the research is to compare and evaluate the efficiency of using silver - coated silicone urinary catheters and catheters without coating for prevention urinary tract infections.
Materials And Methods: The study included 57 adult patients of intensive care unit, which have silicone bladder catheters "Foley" without coating, and 57 patients were catheterized using catheters coated with silver. We revealed symptomatic and asymptomatic urinary tract infections in our research.
A recently engineered mutant of cyan fluorescent protein (WasCFP) that exhibits pH-dependent absorption suggests that its tryptophan-based chromophore switches between neutral (protonated) and charged (deprotonated) states depending on external pH. At pH 8.1, the latter gives rise to green fluorescence as opposed to the cyan color of emission that is characteristic for the neutral form at low pH.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFThe role of pH in regulating biological activity is ubiquitous, and understanding pH-mediated activity has traditionally relied on analyzing static biomolecular structures of highly populated ground states solved near physiological pH. However, recent advances have shown the increasing importance of transiently populated states, the characterization of which is extremely challenging but made plausible with the development of techniques such as relaxation dispersion NMR spectroscopy. To unlock the pH dependence of these transient states with atomistic-level details, we applied the recently developed explicit solvent constant pH molecular dynamics (CPHMD(MSλD)) framework to a series of staphylococcal nuclease (SNase) mutants with buried ionizable residues and probed their dynamics in different pH environments.

In rhodopsin (Rh), this process is coupled to a change in the protonation state of a key residue, E134, whose exact role in activation is not well understood. Capturing this millisecond pH-dependent process is a well-appreciated challenge.

The detection of season deficiency was carried out among children and adolescents residing in Moscow. It is established that vitamin D3 deficiency, in all children and adolescents comprises 89% in spring and 62% in autumn. Independently of season, the vitamin D3 deficiency is least expressed in children of early age and its most propagation takes place in adolescents.
