Fulminant colitis is a severe and potentially life-threatening form of associated bacterial disease leading to inflammation and damage to the colon. Complications such as toxic megacolon, sepsis, and multi-organ failure commonly occur in individuals with compromised immune systems and recent antibiotic use. Management of colitis involves optimization of fluid and electrolyte balance, and elimination of bacteria commonly by administering vancomycin or fidaxomicin.

Pain Management During Intrauterine Device Insertion in Nulliparous Women: A Scoping Review.

This study investigates the various methods of pain management during the insertion of intrauterine devices (IUDs) in nulliparous women. Currently, the only recommended method of pain management is 800 mg of ibuprofen taken one hour before insertion of the IUD. However, women continue to experience pain during the procedure.

Double the Diagnosis: A Case Report of Dizygotic Twins With Meningomyelocele.

The formation of neural tube defects, such as a meningomyelocele, is often sporadic and more common in monozygotic twin gestations but can be associated with folic acid deficiency and rarely occurs in dizygotic twins. In this case report, we present dizygotic twins born in the United States with meningomyeloceles. In addition, their neural tube defects were complicated by hydrocephalus and decreased muscle tone and movement in the lower extremities.

Appendiceal Signet Ring Cell Carcinoma Presenting As Acute Appendicitis: A Case Report.

Appendiceal signet ring cell carcinoma is an exceedingly rare neoplasm which makes up only 4% of carcinomas of the appendix. It is a rare cause of abdominal pain which can mimic acute appendicitis. This case reports a 77-year-old female who presented to the emergency room with a complaint of right lower quadrant abdominal pain.

This study delves into the prevalence of spinal anesthesia-induced hypotension during cesarean (c-section) childbirth, focusing on existing treatments and their efficacy. Currently, neuraxial analgesia is the most efficient method for alleviating pain during c-sections, but its major side effect, hypotension, necessitates a thorough understanding of the available treatment options. A scoping review was conducted using PubMed and Rayyan, with inclusion criteria being English peer-reviewed articles from the last five years, involving nulligravida/primigravida women under 35 years old in the United States.
