There is a rich body of literature on numbers as tools of governance. But the attention of the corpus in question is almost entirely on the rational properties of quantification. This article shows that government by numbers is also, and inseparably, a government by feelings.

World-wide there are an estimated 165,000 human melioidosis cases each year, but recordings of NHP cases are sporadic. Clinical detection of melioidosis in humans is primarily by culturing B.

Healthcare in humanitarian and fragile settings is challenging and complex to provide, particularly for children. Furthermore, there is a distinct lack of medical literature from humanitarian settings to guide best practice in such specific and resource-limited contexts.

We previously reported the tightly regulated kinetics and massive daily production of neutrophils during homeostasis in adult rhesus macaques aged 3 to 19 yr (equivalent to approximately 10 to 70 yr of age in humans). In the current study, we observed an earlier release of recently dividing neutrophils from bone marrow and greater in-group variability of neutrophil kinetics based on in vivo BrdU labeling in a group of older rhesus macaques of 20-26 yr of age.

It remains unclear, however, which factors best predict onset of terminal disease progression and survival time. The objective of this study, therefore, was to directly compare these co-variates of infection for predicting survival times in retrospective studies of SIV/simian-HIV (SHIV)-infected adult rhesus macaques.
