Introduction: Safer use strategies (SUS) are behaviors before, during, and after drug use to moderate use and/or mitigate unwanted consequences. As treatment of substance use disorders becomes more common in primary care, offering SUS in primary care merits exploration.

Method: We explored acceptability and use of SUS in primary care using a convergent parallel mixed-method design consisting of patient and clinician semi-structured interviews and surveys.

Here, we integrated metatranscriptomic datasets from two bloom events in Lake Taihu, China, to analyze and validate the functional differences between colonial and single-cell . Our results confirmed colony expression profiles were disproportionately enriched in transcripts (and functions) compared to other prokaryotic taxa.

Associations among sleep quality, cognitive processing therapy, and posttraumatic stress disorder symptoms in a primary care setting.

Evidence describing the association between sleep quality and trauma-focused therapy is mixed. This secondary analysis of a primary care sample examined whether (a) baseline sleep quality moderated posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptom severity over time across groups receiving different doses of cognitive processing therapy (CPT) and (b) sleep quality improved over time with CPT. Participants were 227 adults who screened positive for PTSD and were participating in a clinical trial comparing two models of PTSD treatment delivery in primary care.

Conservation of function without conservation of amino acid sequence in intrinsically disordered transcriptional activation domains.

Protein function is canonically believed to be more conserved than amino acid sequence, but this idea is only well supported in folded domains, where highly diverged sequences can fold into equivalent 3D structures. In contrast, intrinsically disordered protein regions (IDRs) do not fold into a stable 3D structure, thus it remains unknown when and how function is conserved for IDRs that experience rapid amino acid sequence divergence. As a model system for studying the evolution of IDRs, we examined transcriptional activation domains, the regions of transcription factors that bind to coactivator complexes.

Despite the global expansion of cyanobacterial harmful algal blooms (cHABs), research is biased to temperate systems within the global north, such as the Laurentian Great Lakes. This lack of diversity represents a significant gap in the field and jeopardizes the health of those who reside along at-risk watersheds in the global south. The African Great Lake, Lake Victoria, is understudied despite serving as the second largest lake by surface area and demonstrating year-round cHABs.
