Ultra-processed foods (UPF), defined using the Nova classification system, are associated with increased chronic disease risk. More recently, evidence suggests the UPF subgroup of whole-grain breads and cereals is in fact linked with reduced chronic disease risk. This study aimed to explore associations of cardiometabolic risk measures with Nova UPF intake versus when foods with ≥25% or ≥50% whole grain are excluded from the definition.

Introduction: Percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG) placement is a common procedure for patients requiring non-oral feeding. One rare complication of PEG placement is the formation of a gastrocolocutaneous fistula that develops when the bowel is caught between the stomach and abdominal wall during placement. This report explores an elderly patient's gastrocolocutaneous fistula development months post-PEG placement who presented with malodorous leakage from the gastrostomy tube to the emergency department (ED).

Background: The effect of temporary blood flow arrest during endovascular thrombectomy for acute ischemic stroke is uncertain due to the lack of evidence from randomized controlled trials. We aimed to investigate whether temporary blood flow arrest during endovascular thrombectomy using a balloon guide catheter improves intracranial vessel recanalization compared with nonflow arrest.

Methods: The ProFATE trial (Proximal Blood Flow Arrest During Endovascular Thrombectomy) was a multicenter, randomized, participant- and outcome-blinded trial at 4 thrombectomy centers in the United Kingdom.

Pregnant people are ubiquitously exposed to endocrine-disrupting phthalates through consumer products and food. The placenta may be particularly vulnerable to the adverse effects of phthalates, with evidence from animal models suggesting impacts on placental development and vascularization. We translate this research to humans, examining gestational exposure to phthalates and phthalate replacements in relation to novel markers of chorionic plate surface vascularization.
