Objectives: Adolescents frequently use the emergency department (ED) to meet their health care needs, and many use the ED as their primary source of care. The ED is therefore well situated to provide preventive health care to large numbers of adolescents. The objective of this multicenter qualitative analysis was to identify factors that influence the implementation of preventive health care interventions for adolescent patients in the ED.

Article Synopsis
  • Interpersonal violence in sports poses serious risks to para athletes, especially those from low- and middle-income countries, potentially leading to various forms of abuse and negative health outcomes.
  • A study involving focus group interviews with 26 para athletes from Ghana, India, and Brazil revealed they face multiple types of abuse, including psychological, physical, sexual, and systemic issues, with financial abuse, neglect, and disability stigma being particularly prevalent.
  • The study emphasizes the importance of including the perspectives of these athletes in developing sport safeguarding policies, suggesting that understanding their unique challenges can lead to more effective and equitable interventions in para sport.

Background: Geometric morphometric analysis with Procrustes superimposition is an advanced computational tool that can be used to quantify dynamic changes in complex three-dimensional structures. The present study couples high resolution CT imaging with a Geometric Morphometric approach in order to further understand the complex dysmorphology that occurs in unilateral coronal synostosis (UCS).

Methods: Forty-one UCS patients and 41 age- and sex-matched controls received high-resolution CT imaging.

The highly-conserved Grainyhead-like (Grhl) transcription factors are critical regulators of embryogenesis that regulate cellular survival, proliferation, migration and epithelial integrity, especially during the formation of the craniofacial skeleton. Family member Grhl2 is expressed throughout epithelial tissues during development, and loss of Grhl2 function leads to significant defects in neurulation, abdominal wall closure, formation of the face and fusion of the maxilla/palate. Whereas numerous downstream target genes of Grhl2 have been identified, very little is known about how this crucial developmental transcription factor itself is regulated.

Background: Kidney stone related complaints in the Emergency Department (ED) are common. Current guidelines recommend antibiotic therapy for infected obstructive stones and stone removal in a timely fashion, but there is no clear recommendation for prophylactic antibiotic use for bacteriuria or pyuria in the setting of obstructive ureteral stones.

Objectives: The aim of this study is to evaluate the current management of patients with obstructive ureteral stones in a single ED with emphasis on urine tests and antibiotics use.
