Article Synopsis
  • This study aimed to evaluate the safety and feasibility of starting sacubitril/valsartan therapy in patients with acute decompensated heart failure after they were stabilized in the hospital.
  • Conducted over five years in two Italian medical centers, the study tracked patient outcomes, focusing on how many were discharged on the medication and any adverse events during and after hospitalization.
  • Results showed that 91% of the 122 patients were discharged on sacubitril/valsartan, indicating that starting this treatment during hospitalization is both safe and practical for most patients.

Background: Syncope is considered a risk factor for life-threatening arrhythmias in Brugada patients. Distinguishing a benign syncope from one due to ventricular arrhythmias is often difficult, unless an ECG is recorded during the episode. Aim of the study was to analyze the characteristics of syncopal episodes in a large population of Brugada patients and evaluate the role of electrophysiological study (EPS) and the prognosis in the different subgroups.

Aim: An experience of a tentative contribution of the nurses to the health policy planning is described.

Methods: Fifty one focus groups were organized, with nurses from different contexts (hospital, district, free lance nurses; caring for paediatric, geriatric surgical and medical patients) and nurses were asked to identify problems encountered in patients care, select one, discuss contributing causes assign a weight (from 1 to 100) and define the nurses' contribution to the resolution/improvement of each cause. The problems were discussed in groups and possible solutions identified, with specific attention to the potential implications of regional health policies.
