Background: Suspension training (ST) has been utilized over exercises performed on a stable surface to train multiple muscle groups simultaneously to increase muscle activation and joint stability.
Hypothesis/purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine whether ST augments muscle activation compared to similar exercises performed on a stable surface.
Study Design: Cross-sectional study.
Thermal treatment effect (70 or 80 °C for 5 or 30 min) was evaluated on functional properties of whey protein isolate (WPI) dispersions used for the development of novel vitamin A delivery systems based on emulsion gel beads. This process combines an (O/W) emulsion diluted by a polysaccharide solution and a cold-set gelation induced by salt addition. Pre-heated WPI had a significant impact on the denaturation degree and on the surface hydrophobicity, respectively studied by differential scanning calorimetry and fluorescence.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFMyoglobin (Mb)-loaded poly(ε-caprolactone) (PCL) microparticles were prepared by multiple emulsion with solvent extraction/evaporation method under more or less deleterious operating conditions. The protein integrity was monitored using both UV/Vis absorbance ratio method at specific wavelengths and a conductometric bi-enzymatic biosensor based on proteinase K and pronase. Under standard operating conditions, Mb remained in native conformation, while different degrees of protein denaturation were observed by changing the encapsulation conditions.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFA multilocus sequence analysis of ten virulence-associated genes was performed to study the genetic relationships between 29 Clostridium difficile isolates of various origins, hosts and clinical presentations, and selected from the main lineages previously defined by multilocus sequence typing (MLST) of housekeeping genes. Colonization-factor-encoding genes (cwp66, cwp84, fbp68, fliC, fliD, groEL and slpA), toxin A and B genes (tcdA and tcdB), and the toxin A and B positive regulator gene (tcdD) were investigated. Binary toxin genes (cdtA and cdtB) were also detected, and internal fragments were sequenced for positive isolates.
