The diamond anvil cell (DAC) has been widely used in high-pressure research. Despite significant progress over the past five decades, the opposed anvil geometry in the DAC inevitably leads to a disk-shaped sample configuration at high pressure. This intrinsic limitation is largely responsible for the large pressure and temperature gradients in the DAC, which often compromise precise experiments and their characterizations.

Background: Reactive arthritis and septic arthritis rarely present concomitantly in the same joint and patient. Reactive arthritis presenting after coronavirus disease 2019 is also exceedingly rare, with less than 30 cases reported thus far. Less common pathogens such as Clostridium difficile have been reported to cause reactive arthritis, especially in patients with a positive human leukocyte antigen B27, and therefore should be considered in diagnostic algorithms.

Aim: To examine whether biochemical surveillance vs clinical observation of term infants with prolonged rupture of membranes as a risk factor for early-onset sepsis is associated with differences in patient trajectories in maternity and neonatal intensive care units.

Methods: A retrospective study of live-born infants with gestational age ≥ 37 + 0 weeks born after prolonged rupture of membranes (≥24 h) in four Norwegian hospitals 2017-2019. Two hospitals used biochemical surveillance, and two used predominantly clinical observation to identify early-onset sepsis cases.

We present a portable CO laser heating system for in situ x-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) studies at 16-BM-D (High Pressure Collaborative Access Team, Advanced Photon Source, Argonne National Laboratory). Back scattering optical measurements are made possible by the implementation of a Ge beamsplitter.
