The blood-brain barrier (BBB) presents a significant challenge for targeted drug delivery. A proposed method to improve drug delivery across the BBB is focused ultrasound (fUS), which delivers ultrasound waves to a targeted location in the brain and is hypothesized to open the BBB. Furthermore, stem cell-derived exosomes have been suggested as a possible anti-inflammatory molecule that may have neural benefits, if able to pass the BBB.

This study intended to evaluate the safety and possible therapeutic effect of transcranial infrared laser stimulation (TILS) based on photobiomodulation (PBM) among patients with traumatic brain injury (TBI). Eleven participants who were diagnosed with TBI after full neurological examination and MRI evaluation by a board-certified neurologist completed five to eight 20-minute TILS sessions using the Cytonsys CytonPro-5000 apparatus (pilot laser control, focused wavelength of 1064 nm, maximum output power of 10W, maximum optical power density of 500 mW/cm, effective area 4.5 cm in diameter).

Illnesses in children are difficult enough, but for children and adolescents with Tourette's syndrome, the emergence of unwelcome motor and vocal tics in social situations can lead to not only embarrassment, but also increased self-consciousness, social isolation, thoughts of persecution, and physical pain. This article offers an overview of Tourette's syndrome and focuses on DSM-IV-TR criteria, severity, prevalence and course, etiology and epidemiology, indications for medications, psychosocial therapies, and nursing implications.
