Objectives: Cognitive stimulation therapy (CST) has been shown to produce improvements in cognition and quality of life which compare favourably with trials of cholinesterase inhibitors. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the efficacy of CST, replicating the methods of Spector et al in the British Journal of Psychiatry in 2003 in a smaller sample using a control group engaged in routine activities.
Methods: Eligible participants (mild to moderate dementia; MMSE range 10-23) were randomised to CST group or control conditions.
This study investigated the effects of cyclic bending stress levels and testing in simulated physiological solutions or air on the integrity of plasma-sprayed hydroxylapatite (HA) coatings of two different crystallinities. Hydroxylapatite-coated commercially pure (CP) Ti rods were evaluated by immersion testing in Hank's Balanced Salt Solution (HBSS) and by rotating bending in air and HBSS. Static immersion testing of nonstressed specimens resulted in significant microcracking of coating surfaces after 42 days.

The thin electrolyte layer technique (TET) simulates the physical characteristics of the oral environment by employing a still, thin layer of an electrolyte, in contrast to bulk electrolyte techniques (BET) which utilize relatively large quantities of fluid. These components assemble in the endoplasmic reticulum and are released to the cell surface only when a peptide of the appropriate length and sequence is incorporated into the structure. The binding of beta2-m and peptide to HC is cooperative, and there is indirect evidence that the formation of a stable heterotrimer from an unstable HC:beta2-m heterodimer involves a peptide-induced conformational change in the HC.
