Impact of Vascular Geometry on Thrombosis in Pediatric Patients With Modified Blalock-Taussig-Thomas Shunt: A Pilot Study.

Background: Thrombosis in modified Blalock-Taussig-Thomas shunts (mBTTS) poses a life-threatening risk for infants with shunt-dependent congenital heart disease. Although hemodynamics influence thrombosis, the specific geometric contributors remain unclear. This study aimed to identify key variables to inform future hemodynamic analysis, hypothesizing that brachiocephalic, subclavian artery, mBTTS, and/or pulmonary artery (PA) geometry play a critical role in clot formation.

A case report of an unprovoked neonatal pulmonary embolism: management strategies and cardiopulmonary complications.

Background: Neonatal pulmonary embolism is a rare occurrence, especially when idiopathic, instead occurring in patients with identifiable risk factors including severe dehydration, presence or history of a central venous line, or identifiable genetic causes. Given the rarity of paediatric and neonatal pulmonary emboli, few guidelines exist to support the clinician in both the initial resuscitation and ongoing management of the critically ill patient with pulmonary emboli.

Case Summary: We present a 5-day-old female with unprovoked massive pulmonary embolism and associated haemodynamic compromise.

Objective: To examine the levels of patient self-advocacy in a sample of participants with Chiari Malformation (CM) and to explore how they relate to clinical outcomes.

Methods: As part of a larger clinical trial addressing chronic pain in patients with CM, 111 participants completed the Patient Self Advocacy Scale (PSAS), the Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scale (DASS-21), and the Brief Pain Inventory (BPI).

Single ventricular assist device (SVAD) use before and after stage I palliation (S1P) is increasing with limited data on outcomes. To address this knowledge gap, we conducted a single-center retrospective review to assess pre- and post-SVAD clinical status, complications, and outcomes. We leveraged a granular, longitudinal, local database that captures end-organ support, procedural interventions, hematologic events, laboratory data, and antithrombotic strategy.
