Circulation of avian Chlamydia abortus in the Netherlands and community-acquired pneumonia: an outbreak investigation and retrospective cohort study.

Background: In 2021, a novel group of Chlamydia strains in wild birds was classified as avian Chlamydia abortus, with unknown zoonotic potential. We report relevant features of avian C abortus infections from a Dutch family cluster and unrelated historical cases using clinical, epidemiological, and microbiological data.

Methods: An outbreak of avian C abortus started in the Netherlands in December, 2022.

Tracing the origin of NDM-1-producing and extensively drug-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa ST357 in the Netherlands.

Background: In the hospital environment, carbapenemase-producing Pseudomonas aeruginosa (CPPA) may lead to fatal patient infections. However, the transmission routes of CPPA often remain unknown. Therefore, this case study aimed to trace the origin of CPPA ST357, which caused a hospital-acquired pneumonia in a repatriated critically ill patient suffering from Guillain-Barré Syndrome in 2023.

Zoonotic transmission of from domestic cats; A case series of chronic follicular conjunctivitis in humans.

We present three cases of chronic follicular conjunctivitis resulting from the zoonotic transmission of from domestic cats. Our objective is to raise awareness regarding the potential zoonotic transmission of from domestic cats and describe the methodology for definitive pathogen identification using Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) and subsequent sequence analysis, a useful tool in the identification of these rare pathogens. We discuss the factors that could be contributing to the potential under-diagnosis of zoonotic infections and propose a treatment regime for cases of -related conjunctivitis.

COVID-19: first long-term care facility outbreak in the Netherlands following cross-border introduction from Germany, March 2020.

Background: The Dutch province of Limburg borders the German district of Heinsberg, which had a large cluster of COVID-19 cases linked to local carnival activities before any cases were reported in the Netherlands. However, Heinsberg was not included as an area reporting local or community transmission per the national case definition at the time. In early March, two residents from a long-term care facility (LTCF) in Sittard, a Dutch town located in close vicinity to the district of Heinsberg, tested positive for COVID-19.
