The first case of invasive S. suis infection in a human in Lithuania: Case report and literature review.

Streptococcus suis is an emerging zoonotic pathogen that can cause infections in pigs and humans, usually after ingestion of raw pork meat or wound contamination. We report the first S. suis meningitis and sepsis case in a human in Lithuania.

Interrater agreement between student and teacher assessments of endotracheal intubation skills in a self-directed simulation learning environment.

Background: Practical skill assessment is an important part of the learning process to confirm competencies in acquired medical knowledge.

Objective: This study aimed to compare the assessments of endotracheal intubation skills using the HybridLab® methodology between students and teacher in terms of interobserver reliability.

Methods: Reliability analysis was performed with observational data (data are reported according to STROBE guidelines).

Mycobacterium xenopi pulmonary infections: a multicentric retrospective study of 136 cases in north-east France.

Background: Owing to its low incidence, the management of Mycobacterium xenopi pulmonary infections is not clearly defined. A multicentre retrospective study was performed to describe the features of the disease and to evaluate its prognosis.

Methods: All patients with M xenopi satisfying the 1997 ATS/IDSA criteria from 13 hospitals in north-east France (1983-2003) were included in the study.

[Pneumonia with septicemia caused by Pasteurella multocida in an immunocompetent patient].

Pneumonia with septicemia caused by Pasteurella multocida was diagnosed in an immunocompetent patient exposed to a dog. This case is remarkable by two aspects: first the absence of visible cutaneous lesion, and second the localization and severity of the infection caused by P. multocida even though the patient was immunocompetent.
