The N-Acetyltransferase 2 Polymorphism and Susceptibility to Inflammatory Bowel Disease: A Case-Control Study.

The enzyme N-acetyltransferase 2 (NAT2) plays an important role in metabolism and detoxification of xenobiotics, including carcinogens and medications. We aimed to assess the contribution of the NAT2 polymorphism to susceptibility to inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) in the Polish population. The study involved 101 IBD patients and 100 healthy controls.

Background: Vedolizumab is a gut-selective anti-lymphocyte trafficking agent used to treat ulcerative colitis (UC) and Crohn's disease.

Objectives: We aimed to evaluate the effectiveness, safety, and durability of the therapeutic effect of vedolizumab after treatment discontinuation in a real-world cohort of patients with UC treated in Poland.

Design: This was a multicenter, prospective study involving patients with moderate to severely active UC from 12 centers in Poland who qualified for reimbursed treatment with vedolizumab between February and November 2019.

Cumulative Effective Dose from Medical Imaging in Inflammatory Bowel Disease.

Inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) are chronic and relapsing disorders usually requiring numerous medical imaging. IBD patients might be exposed to a large dose of radiation. As a cumulative effective dose (CED) ≥ 50 mSv is considered significant for stochastic risks of cancer, it is important to monitor the radiation exposure of IBD patients.
