Novel Amazonian Ceratomyxa species (Cnidaria: Myxozoa) with amoeboid plasmodial motility.

Myxosporeans are a diverse group of cnidarian endoparasites of aquatic animals, with more than 2600 described species. The genus Ceratomyxa includes some 270 species that are mostly coelozoic and infect the gall bladders of mainly marine fish. During our survey in Tapajós River in the Brazilian Amazon, two Ceratomyxa species were discovered in the gallbladders of the anostomid fishes Schyzodon fasciatus and Schyzodon vittatus.

Low-Dose Creatine Supplementation May Be Effective in Early-Stage Statin Myopathy: A Preliminary Study.

Statins are the main cholesterol-lowering treatments, but often they are stopped because of statin myopathy. Expensive second-line treatments are then prescribed, causing a burden on the health system. Previous research showed that creatine supplementation may be a relatively inexpensive, safe, and effective way to mitigate statin toxicity to the muscle.

Selective Alteration of the Left Arcuate Fasciculus in Two Patients Affected by Creatine Transporter Deficiency.

(1) Background: In hereditary creatine transporter deficiency (CTD), there is an absence of creatine in the brain and neurological symptoms are present, including severe language impairment. However, the pathological changes caused by creatine deficiency that generate neuropsychological symptoms have been poorly studied. (2) Aims: To investigate if the language impairment in CTD is underpinned by possible pathological changes.

Hemoparasite Analysis and Hematological Parameters of Four Freshwater Turtle Species (Testudines: Podocnemididae) from the Brazilian Amazon.

Methods: Sampling was performed at three sites in the Tapajós River mouth, Pará State, Brazil, and an aliquot of blood was collected from each turtle by post-occipital dorsal vein puncture.
