Aim Of The Study: Sarcoidosis is characterized by noncaseating granulomas that can affect multiple organs. Due to the lack of prospective studies regarding treatment of hepatic sarcoidosis with ursodeoxycholic acid (UDCA), we set out to evaluate its effects in a single-center, open-label, prospective, pre-post study.

Material And Methods: A total of 10 patients were screened from August 2018 to July 2020; seven met the criteria and were enrolled.

Objective: To determine the frequency and accuracy of diffusion restriction (DR) of the retina and/or optic nerve (ON) detection on standard brain magnetic resonance diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI-MRI) in patients presenting with acute non-arteritic central retinal artery occlusion (CRAO).

Methods: This is a retrospective case-control study that includes all consecutive patients presenting to our tertiary academic center from 2013-2021 with acute non-arteritic CRAO (cases) or acute ischemic stroke syndrome (controls, age and gender-matched) that had brain MRI performed within 14 days from symptom onset. Two neurology residents (junior and senior), a vascular neurologist, and two neuroradiologists, blinded to the site of CRAO, independently reviewed the brain MRIs to assess for the presence of retina and ON DR.

Objective: This study investigated biological, psychological, and behavioral aspects of caregivers' responses to toddlers' pain-related distress by measuring caregivers' high-frequency heart rate variability (HRV) responses during toddler vaccination pain and examining associations with caregivers' behavioral responses and psychological stress.

Methods: Participants included caregiver-toddler dyads (N = 194) from a longitudinal cohort-sequential study who were observed during toddlers' 12-, 18-, or 24-month routine vaccinations. Changes in caregiver HRV were analyzed using growth curve modeling.

Article Synopsis
  • The demand for diagnostic imaging services in the U.S. surged in 2022, leading to a scheduling backlog that increased the average interval from 2 weeks to 6 weeks.
  • A quality improvement initiative aimed to cut this interval to 10 days by January 2023, implementing strategies like double-booking slots and standardizing protocols, which ultimately reduced the interval to 3 days.
  • These interventions not only raised examination volumes by 19% (adding about $1.6 million in revenue) but also maintained consistent appointment delays, receiving positive feedback from staff.

Article Synopsis
  • This study investigates the use of recombinant psoriasin as a potential new treatment for oral candidiasis, specifically targeting the growth of Candida albicans on denture materials.
  • Researchers conducted experiments to assess psoriasin's efficacy and safety, showing it effectively inhibited fungal growth when used in sufficient concentrations.
  • The results suggest psoriasin could be a safer alternative to traditional antifungals for treating denture-related fungal infections, with minimal cytotoxic effects on human cells.
